- Intelligent
- A Detective has to know what he is doing, and having knowledge of more than just the law is important when dealing with the magical world as well. It may be secret but it's got it's mysteries along with every other part of this world and my mother has always said that I need to know what I was doing.
- Determination
- Sometimes the path to solving a mystery is a difficult one, I've always been someone who will push himself to get the job done, in school, in playing games, and now even more so in my work as a Detective. And I'll need to stay determined...if I ever want to solve perhaps the greatest mystery of them all...what happened to what would have been my home and my father.
- "Half-Boiled"
- I was taught by my mother that a detective and a man had to be a someone who could keep their emotions from ruling their judgement in working a case. Unfortunately as she's told me on occasion, I have yet to figure out this skill so she's called me Half-Boiled for it. As much as I try to let my emotions keep from ruling on my judgement, I haven't been able to keep myself from doing what I thought was not always right by law...but right by morals.
- Personable
- One thing, I am proud of is the fact that I can generally get along with people. It helps in getting information, yes, and it can help you out of a jam, but that's not why I do it. If one thing my mother taught me about being a Magical Detective is that it can be a lonely life. And it's because of that I at least want to try to get along with people so that it's not so much so. I know it puts others in danger...but then again...I dont think I'd be here if my mother wasn't the same way. The trick is to keep friends out of danger and that is one thing I will do my best to do always.
LIKES: //Friends, Detective Novels, Puzzles, Gaming, and Family
DISLIKES: //Criminals - "People who make this world shed tears", Cheaters, Being called "Half-Boiled", Betrayers
STRENGTHS: //Determination, Able to Improvise, an Eye for Detail, Skilled in Fighting for those criminals that just dont come quietly.
WEAKNESSES: //Easy to get Close too if you aren't on his radar, If not allowed to concentrate his Divinations wont be as good not to mention he is open to attacks when performing a divination, Can lose his composure easier than a detective should.

MY FAMILY LINE: //(Presented by Shoutarou at the Typewriter again) Though I've got two last names, the family my blood is associated the most is the Faulkner Family from England. I'm actually part of the 7th Generation of the Faulkner family which spans about 700 years of existence. Though not the most known of families, nobles and other important figures have called upon our line to solve the mysteries that plagued them...be they normal or otherwise. That Tradition still stands today and currently lives inside myself and others of my generation such as my younger sister. We aren't the most well known but we aren't the most secretive either, we wouldn't get clients that way nor would we have gotten so many cases over the years to solve with our skills, but only those so inclined know that we can be called upon to solve more "magically inclined" cases and we take them with pride. In our history, it is not uncommon for members of our family to be called to other parts of the world to take the more magically inclined cases, and for a member of our family, this kind of job is held in the highest honor...short of helping the English Monarch or the Japanese Emperor of course.
One of the things that makes our family so accomplished in what we do is the fact that we specialize in Three forms of magecraft, Divinations, Reinforcement, and Ice Manipulation. Divination to help us find our criminals, Ice Manipulation to have those tools that we may need in our pursuit or a handy weapon to defend ourselves, and Reinforcement to help us when our bodies need that extra push. The one thing that ties them all together to make a detective worthy of being called a Faulkner is our minds, these are the main weapons that each member of the Faulkner line has had to have to make this job work on more than just the average theft case. The training is rigorous but it has helped most of us survive the test of danger and what has helped our family live so long.
Our Crests are another thing that has assisted us in becoming good at what we do. In them are a sort of archive of what my ancestors have been able to accomplish in these fields, and what tricks of the trade have kept them alive and which ones are just generally useful tricks. It's in the shape of an eagle when you get to see it, and a funny thing is that one of our family symbols is a half eagle on our clothing. Now we do keep printed records of our Spells...but they are kept in one of the most important places for a branch of the Faulkner Family, the Faulkner Archive.
When a part of the family moves to a new part of the world, they are required by our family codes to set up a magically protected and hidden part of our homes to serve as the place for the Archive. It is here where we keep our spells under lock and key...but it is here we also keep case records. In these Archives, one might be able to find a great deal of information of mysteries of the past and more importantly more of the more magically affected cases. We keep these so that we have a history of every villain and thug we have ever caught, a Legacy of our Crime Fighting ways. The Archive is the most important place for a Faulkner and to lose one is a tragedy for the whole family.
MY HISTORY: //(Presented by Shoutarou as he types this out) Now as far as I'm concerned, I have had a humble beginning, that may have never come if my mother and father not been away on their honeymoon when the disaster happened. Now I was born to my father, James Faulkner-Kadoya and my mother, Chiyoko Faulkner-Kadoya on April 7, 2008 in our new home Osaka. To say that my mom and dad, we're proud would be an understatement, I remember them saying they were so happy I was born. And at a young age, I was told I was special and that I was capable of great things, and I believed them...mainly because I wanted to be like the heroes in video games and anime that I had come to love so much when I was a child. Imagine my surprise when I was told at age 8 that I was not only a magus, but part of a line of magical detectives. It was like a dream come true...however like all things, my talents came with training and a rite of passage in which I received one of the great treasures of my line, the Faulkner Family Crest.
From that day, my mother whom was both a magus and respected detective in Fuyuki City before the disaster taught me about how to be a detective, and in the same light, it was my father who taught me to be a magus...well...that was until he vanished from my life. One day, when I turned 10, he vanished and I never saw him again, leaving me and my 8 year old sister behind. My mother wouldn't tell me why...but she did tell me that she would be continuing my training, however there was something I needed to do before she could. Something that was to be come my responsibility in the absence of my father, and eventually the responsibility of both me and my Sister as she too was beginning her training but for her she was learning the hard way with the spell records kept in the place I would learn to find.
Training had always been challenging both physically and mentally, but this had been set up to be the greatest mystery I had solved in my short life, and for good reason. Following the bare bones clues and using the skills of our family, I had eventually found my way to our father's library in our home. However, it was when I finally put it all together, I found a special book, and after channeling my prana through it I pulled the book and it opened to reveal, me and my sister's inheritance, our section of the Faulkner Archives. When I walked inside, my mother was standing at the entrance, it was then she explained my inheritance and why it was so important. I took time to explore the many files that was here, learning the history of my father and apparently my grand and great-grandfather and mothers. I learned a lot about what my Father did...however as I read through them, I saw one case file that didn't have the closed stamp. I picked it up...and I found out that one of the last cases my father had been working on...was the real cause behind the disaster at Fuyuki City.
As I grew older, and went through high school, I heavily studied the Faulkner Archive and trained alongside my sister to become a better detective. However, I would always come back to that particular case. It was unsolved, and what I would soon come to learn from my mother that it was the last case he was working on. The main reason being, was that before this archive was set up, the last one we had was in Fuyuki City, and it's loss was a great one to our family, as would be the loss of any of the Faulkner Archives. Of course, this one belonged to my grandfather and it was here that my father had kept a copy of his records, but at the end of the day, how much work was lost, how many criminials escaped justice because of the destruction of the archive. And more importantly...what would drive someone to destroy an entire city the way they did...so many people...so many lost lives. It was a tragedy and it was when I got to the end of the case file, I had found my resolve.
It was then a message came down from overseas, through the elders of the Faulkner Family...that a chance to solve that mystery...and perhaps undo the damage done to Fuyuki City was sent to us when we were sent word of a competition known as the Holy Grail War. It's prize, one wish...a wish that would be granted unconditionally. It was a chance I had to take, and perhaps along the way, I may finally put the final pieces together in the case that my father left to me. I had solved my final case as a private detective here in Osaka, and then left the business to my mother and sister as I decided to take on this task. To win this war, and to not only restore Fuyuki and it's people, but to find and get rid of the cause of it's destruction. It was what my father, died trying to find out, and it would be the case that would be my main focus to solving through this Grail War. Watch out Lucca...here comes Shoutarou Faulkner, and for what was responsible for Fuyuki's destruction, I say only this..."Now, let us count your crimes." or as we say it in Japan "Sa, Omae no Tsumi o Kazoero!"
MY GOALS: //Goal 1: Finish my Father's Final Case: Solving the mystery of Fuyuki's Destruction. Goal 2: Win the Holy Grail War. Goal 3: Use the wish to restore Fuyuki. Goal 4: Find the thing or Person responsible...and ensure that no other city will be wiped from the map by the same force, no matter what.

- The Lucca Faulkner Archive: In the bottom floor of the Faulkner Detective Agency is a row of bookshelves near Shoutarou's Desk where the entrance to the Faulkner Archive of Lucca hides. It is opened by channeling Shoutarou's Prana through a specific book as he pulls it. It leads down under the office and is where Shoutarou keeps his magic case files and the case file that belonged to his father before his disappearance. It is protected with barrier field and secured with both magical and technological security such as the door to the archive. RANK: //
ELEMENT: //Wind and Water
EXPERTISE: // Scrying: One of the things that he was trained to do was to utilize a sort of divination magic. This kind of divination requires two things: a focus crystal which is always clear and a piece of evidence. Using this kind of spell, allows Shoutarou to get an image of the crime, the victim, or the perpetrator. While doing this, Shoutarou must concentrate and be allowed time to discern the image in his mind. At the most to get a decently clear picture it will take at least 10 minutes, at 5 minutes he will get a clear image of surroundings but not of the importants of a crime such as what was the crime, the victim, or the perpetrator. If less than 2 minutes the images are blurry but it's the best he'll get in a rush.
Crime Scene Investigation: This expertise allows Shoutarou to be able to read a scene and see important things about it. This is mostly used in work where he is solving a crime, however this can also be used to discern places where ambushes can happen and places where he or his allies can gain an advantage in an Area.
Battle Trained: Shoutarou is trained in hand to hand combat as well as melee combat. He is not the best by any means but he can hold his own in a fight. He is also trained to be able to improvise in a fight so through the use of his surroundings and Projection magic he is able to arm himself in a spot with a melee weapon or a throwing weapon, though throwing weapons are not his strongest suit.
MAGIC CIRCUITS: //Shoutarou has available to him 23 Circuits at 12 each for a total of 276 Prana Output
SPELLS: //
"What's Your Story?" (Water/Mystic Code)
Rank: C
Cost: 20 Pr + 2 Pr each Minute used to Cast
Range: N/A
Effect:
"Noble Keeper of Justice, I ask for thine guidance
Seeking Memory of the Past is my Quest
The Balance has been shifted and must be righted
Let me see what has been for the sake of Justice."
These lines are chanted repeatedly to activate the spell that helped make the Faulkner Family Famous as Detectives. By using the Faulkner Eye as a Main Focus, and a Piece of Evidence (Or an Item belonging to a person or place) as a second Focus for its casting, Shoutarou is able to glimpse into the past of the object. It is said that each piece of evidence has its own story to tell and this spell takes it very literally. However, this spell also requires time which someone may not have in some cases, though through the years the Faulkner Family have practiced and found ways to make this process work faster to the point the full casting now takes minutes as supposed to days. For Shoutaro, in order to see a clear picture of what the item has to offer he needs 10 minutes to get a clear picture as the images he sees will slowly come into focus and he will begin to hear any sounds associated with it. At 5 minutes the picture will be blurry and a very muffled sound will be heard but the scenery around it will be a bit clearer. However, if less than 2 minutes was used to cast the images will be even more blurred and the scenery around it will be blurred and no sounds will be heard. However how much of the story he can get is limited and with a full casting he can see only up to a maximum of 24 hours into the past of an item from when it was used as the second focus for the spell. To see that far depends again on the time spent on the casting, in order to get the full 24 Hours an extra 10 minutes must be used in the casting. On a normal 10 minute casting he can see as far back as 12 hours, with 5 minutes he can see as far as 6 hours, and less than 2 gives him at the most one hour since he found it. This spell has been in the crest of the Faulkner Family since they came into magic many years ago.
Justice's Pursuit (Wind)
Rank: C
Cost: 30 Pr (6 Pr per minute to maintain)
Range: Self
Effect:
"Noble winds heed my plea
A Person in Need, A Villain to be Stopped
Flight of foot, strong of body, and sharp of sight
Winds aid me in...Justice's Pursuit!
This is a Reinforcement type spell that has assisted in the capture or rescue of many a people over the years. It is a Simultaneous Reinforcement of the Eyes, the Legs, and the Body that utilizes 4 Lines. It's use is to allow a member of the family who is perusing a criminal or a victim in need of help, by Reinforcing the Eyes to grant the user extra sight to keep eyes on the target, the Legs to allow for faster movement and higher jumps, and the body to resist any blows that may come during the pursuit. This reinforcement will last for 10 minutes without maintaining it...however even with maintenance this spell can only last a maximum of 20 minutes. This particular Reinforcement spell was introduced during the 4th Generation to the Crest and has been a valuable tool, especially in 1920's America.
Imprisoning Frost (Wind/Water)
Rank: C
Cost: 40 Pr (8 Pr per minute to maintain freeze longer)
Range: 30 Feet
Effect:
"Keeper of Justice, I ask for thine strength
Allow not this foe of good to escape my grasp
Grant me a boon to capture this foe, Imprisoning Frost!"
This is the Faulkner Family's version of a pair of hand cuffs...only more cold and much more restraining. Activated by a 3 line chant, from a distance of at most 30 ft away, Shoutarou is able to mix wind and water to create and launch a ball of ice magic to that traps it's target in a block of ice from the point of impact down to their feet from his palm. This is not an instant freeze, but a gradual freeze that will take 20 seconds to begin to be a cold enough to really slow someone down, then by 50 seconds after impact will have frozen down to the ground to lock the target in place. It is dispelled with a touch and a command word from Shoutarou. If not dispelled the restraints will hold for a maximum of 5 minutes without paying its cost, and for 10 minutes even with maintenance. This spell is meant to restrain but never to harm but those more susceptible to cold will be under much more discomfort than your average person while under it's effects. This was developed by the 3rd generation and is by far one of the most effective spells besides "What's your Story?".
Crystal Blade (Water/Wind)
Rank: C
Cost: 30 pr (20 pr if forming around a pole like object) [6 pr to per minute to maintain]
Range: Self or one Hand-Held pole like object
Description:
"Keeper of Justice, I ask for your strength
Tip the Scales to my favor and balance the scale
Balance with ice and form my weapon
Grant to me now...the Crystal Blade!"
This is used to help the Magic Detective in need of a weapon, by channeling his prana he has the ability super cool the air around his right hand and uses his mind to form a sword of magical ice that can clash with steel. This skill becomes more of a reinforcement style spell when used with an object such as a small pipe or a baseball bat where the sword forms around the item and reinforces it while the ice forms to a blade. Either way this spell can last up 3 minutes without maintaining, and 7 minutes with maintenance.
Hiding In the Scene (Wind/Mystic Code)
Rank: E
Cost: 10 Pr (1.5 Pr per minute to maintain)
Range: Self (Must be wearing the Blending Cloak)
Description:
"Spirits of the wind, conceal my presence from the eyes of the unjust"
This one line chant activates this effect along with the trigger action of wrapping the cloak around himself while he wears it while channeling the prana, a very small barrier of air surrounds Shoutarou to the point where he is camouflaged with his surroundings. There are conditions to the maintainability of this barrier. If he takes a step while in this barrier he will lose is camouflage, while he is able to move his hands and Arms, he cannot extend them further than a foot and a half in front of him, if someone or something runs into him the barrier is revoked, most importantly, he can never take off the cloak for once it slides off of his shoulders he will be revealed immediately. This ability spell was created by the 3rd Generation as a method of hiding while pursuing a target in a situation where your target knows you are after him/her, it is also meant for staking out a location undetected from prying eyes but to do so you must abide by the barrier's rules. If the rules are unbroken, you can remain unseen during one casting until the effect is dispelled or one of the rules are broken. This is of course isn't that useful against Mages who can sense the prana used for this effect.
