Now I know what you're all thinking, so I'll just get that out of the way first. "Wait just a cotton picking minute Mr.! Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character, an't that isn't allowed!" You are correct! And I commend your observational skills. However, as we all know, the Nasuverse is built on exceptions and loopholes, and this particular loophole actually has precedent. I turn your attention to Kajiro, the Servant Assassin. As explained in the visual novel and the anime, Kojiro himself was never a real person. However, there was at least one swordsman capable of using his legendary technique, the tsubame gaeshi sword technique (also loved by kyouketsu ninja <.< ). This namesless swordsman was actually who was summoned, and he played the role of Kojiro.

Similarly to this example, there were several detectives that Sherlock Holmes could have been based on. Just as was the case with Kojiro, one of these nameless detectives would be summoned to play the part of Sherlock Holmes. And there you have it. The kind of wonderful loophole that makes anyone who tries to fully understand the Nasuverse tear their hair out by its roots.

So now that that stuff is out of the way, hi there. As you might have noticed, I'm no rookie when it comes to the Nasuverse. I'd also like to consider myself a veteran when it comes to writing and RPing. I actually admin my own RP forum separate from this one, and decided to hop on this bandwagon at the suggestion of some of my friends there. If you want you can call me Crim since that's what I'm more used to, but if you want to make me feel all smart and stuff then Holmes works just as well.

Jokes aside welcome to the board holmes. Sadly, we do have a rule concerning that loophole here on the board made some time ago. Servants that were not obviously fictional could be summoned. While your idea to use someone who matches the criteria for holmes is nice...that really could be any detective off the streets. Putting aside the fact that said servant would not fit any of the 7 classes used for the war. Especially not assassin since holmes was a detective after all.

Sherlock Holmes could most definitely fit a servant class. Sherlock Holmes was quite a good stick fighter. Thus he could fulfill the Saber, Lancer, or Archer class. A Saber just has to have high balanced stats. A Lancer just has to be quick. And an Archer just has to use ranged weapons or have a ton of noble phantasms.

The other part is more difficult, but I'll give it a shot. First of all, after a little more research I've found there actually was a specific person that inspired the legend of Sherlock Holmes. Here's a link to that site that explains it. davidhaviland.wordpress.com/2010/07/ Also, the legend of Sherlock Holmes has become so widespread that there are all kinds of stories about him now; even beyond the original works. These stories add to the legend, and give it more likelihood of becoming a heroic spirit. Add to this that there once were many people who thought Sherlock Holmes was real and sent letters to Baker Street, and I think it's perfectly reasonable for him to be summoned.

Actually, a Lancer does need a lance, a Saber needs to be proficient with a sword, and an Archer, just ranged stuff. Aacha and Gil cheat by tossing their stuff around.

A stick could constitute as a lance. It's the same basic motions as one. And it's also very popular to depict Holmes with a sword cane. So there's your sword.

I would just like to point out that the sticks used in European stick fighting would not qualify as they are much to short to be considered a lancer or a spear. Also Holmes never had a legendary stick. Therefore he would not qualify. Plus Holmes would not qualify in general as he was not a 'unique existence'. While Homes is a brilliant detective, what he does can be learned by anyone. It is not the same type of legendary actions that make up the legend for a Heroic Spirit so therefore even if someone could fill the the role of Holmes, they could never become a Heroic Spirit because what Holmes does is not unique.

While I think the giant "denied" stamp was a bit excessive, I do see where you're coming from Enkidu. Thank you for being patient and responding to me with tact. I knew he was a stretch to begin with, but it didn't hurt to try. I guess I'll just think of something less creative and fun.

Well we have no problem with people having creative and fun characters. You can take a look at some of the characters on this board for examples of that. The rules are here for everyone to have fun without thing going too overboard. There are plenty of legendary figures from the past that you could chose from. If you want, just come on over to the ooc box [urlhttp://cbox.ws/?n=7-232741-qbchz2]here[/url] if you want to bounce idea off of the rest of the members. If you need any help with character ideas/design the members on this board or more then happy to help.

Well creativity is certainly well liked, but just like in many places there is a limitation as to what is possible and what not. The forum has clearly some stricter rules when it comes to some heroes, but that also makes the balancing a bit easier.

Holmes would unfortunately after concerning oneself more with the Grail War be a very awkward idea. We also don't want to dwell too deep into pure phantasy characters because a small 'rule bending' will result in more and more and more rule bending because it just can't be allowed for one person only.

The end result might be Darth Vader.... Creative?? Maybe yes.. wanted? NO!

Herakles just likes things a bit 'bigger'. Well, I don't even know if the image was resized for that purpose or if he was too lazy.

But you should not forget that he actually commented quite normal at the begin. The reason for this picture (I actually like it) is that you kept on insisting on something that was stated to be impossible.

If you feel handicapped because of the lack of choices, that is unfortunate, but the rules have proven to function well so far. You can certainly create another character, if you desire. I only have one request. Please, refrain from starting a fight with anyone, less a member of the mod team.

Granted, I probably came off a bit more demanding than I intended. You know how it is when you get yourself all excited about something and then it doesn't work out. But as you may notice from my changed display name, I didn't have too much trouble thinking up a new idea. If anything this one might turn out even better than my original idea, but I guess that's just the way the world works.
