Saa! The cards are down, and the official background story is now available for viewing!
Twenty-three years have passed, since the disaster that was the Fifth Heaven's Feel. Twenty-three years since the Holy Grail of Fuyuki, corrupted by Angra Mainyu, plunged the city into a land of eternal darkness, wiping it off the map. But in their unstoppable determination, the great family of Einzbern, led by "old man Acht", Jubstacheit von Einzbern, continues on its quest to regain the Third Magic.
Utilizing its ties to the Association, Einzbern has found a suitable site for a sixth Heaven's Feel ritual: The Tuscan City of Lucca, a Spiritual Land entrusted to the Second Owner bloodline known as Mezzanotte. Desperate for results, Einzbern has declared the new war a "Controlled Free-for-All", allowing certain non-master personages to participate, given they have the Association's blessing to do so.
Hoping to end the heresy once and for all, the Church has begrudgingly allowed the battle royale to take place in their territory, in order to maximize their control over the ritual. To this end, they have tasked Cardinal Vezzoni of the Assembly of the Eighth Sacrament with appointing a Supervisory Team to ensure that the war's conclusion is as heavily regulated as possible.
To complicate matters, Einzbern has discovered that the Grail's increasing corruption has rendered the Servant System out of control. In addition to the earlier-observed corruption that allowed the summoning of Anti-Heroes, it now indiscriminately summons Servants without adhering to the original system limit of seven... and along with those, a veritable host of other anomalous phenomena, including, but not restricted to shadow monsters. The family has yet to come up with an explanation for this, and without the creators of the system, the Makiri, to lend their insight, the mystery might not be solved at all. The old man's researchers continue to study it in hopes of finding an answer to the glitch.
Not long after the city was chosen five years ago, the local board of education began a campaign to educate citizens about the many heroes and anti-heroes of the world. This includes a successful, anonymously funded edutainment program, and the addition of world heroic literature to the curricula of the city's many educational institutions. Many rumors circulate of why this happened, but whatever the true reason, the playing field of fame has now been leveled.
The battlefield is set, and the participants are assembling. Which path will you choose? A Servant fighting for one single desire? A Master fighting for ultimate power? A Freelancer with his own personal goals? Or a simple person who has no idea of what's going on? The First Holy Grail War of Lucca is about to begin... and no matter who you are, you'll probably get caught up in it one way or another.
