[/ul] [/blockquote]
- Frugal
- Simple life in the monastery and disciplined routine in the military left Decha quite unaccustomed to spending large sum of money. In fact, he finds the very idea of splurging one’s income for a material possession to be abhorrent and often resort to the cheapest available sources of sustenance. After all, the true path to happiness is to relinquish one’s worldly desire.
- Vigilant
- Years of serving in a region plagued by terrorist attacks forced Decha to hone his awareness of the surrounding for survival. It was through meditation that he found the focus needed for constant vigilance, an absolute necessity when even a few second neglect can lead the whole unit into an ambush or within range of explosive ordinances.
- Renunciate
- As a member of a longstanding family of devout Buddhists, Decha participates in a form of abstinence from worldly pleasure, rejecting excessive violence, alcohol, and sexual pleasure. The rigorous discipline of military life only served to heighten his strict regimen of self-control.
- Gynophobic
- A lingering trait from his time in the monastery, where physical contact with the opposite gender is strictly forbidden, Decha is incapable of touching any adult female without experiencing a sense of guilt. Still, his real reason for aversion isn’t due to fear or negative impression of female in general. Conversely, it is a result from the lack of experience in dealing with female population that makes him highly excitable when coming into contact with them.
- Soft-hearted
- While it could be expected of a man who was raised in the monastery to abstain from act of violence, Decha had learned the hard way that the it usually is indecisiveness that causes greater losses of lives in a battlefield. Justifying his action with aspiration for better future, he can pull the trigger when the situation demands it. Nevertheless, Decha is incapable of denying his true nature. Certain actions that cause civilian casualties or excessive cruelty would still be deemed too loathsome by his conscience and are not permissible in any circumstance
LIKES: //
- Meditation
- Serenity and peace
- Black coffee (To keep him awake during meditation)
- East and Southeast Asian literature
- Simple self-sufficient life
DISLIKES: //
- Every form of 'worldly' temptations and addictions
- Sleep (Especially when he's trying to meditate)
- Close-minded and frivolous individuals
- Excessive violence
STRENGTHS: // Most notably his experience in combat that had strengthened Decha’s resistance against the horror of death and threshold of the physical pain he can endure. His military training also give him an edge over conventional magi in the term of physical prowess, which could be further augmented even further by his arsenal of spells.
WEAKNESSES: // While he had lived through many combat situations against armed insurgents, Decha had no prior experience in combating other western magi. As such, he remained susceptible to being surprised by other forms of thaumaturgy, aside from the few practiced in his family. He will easily strikes most western magi as being ignorant of their traditions.

MY FAMILY LINE: //
The origin of the Boonnark family could be traced to the early 14th century during the formation of the Siamese kingdom of Ayutthaya, where they served among the king’s retainers.
In Southeast Asian culture where the ties between the monastic and the military are strong, the family’s strength was in the connection with both institutions, where their children often took prominent roles. During the time period in which monasteries served as center of education, this positioning worked to their advantage by cultivating favor with children of other prominent families of their time.
Upon reaching adulthood, it is customary for the ‘talentless’ members to move on from monastic life and serve in the royal army, while those with ‘talent’ were forced to seclude themselves to a modest life within monasteries as mentor to the newer generations. The only exception being the first heir who will perform duty of an envoy in contacting other magi families and organizations. The practice is their way of alleviating conflicts within the family. While not entirely effective, it did prevent the entire family from collapsing into war over succession.
By the late 15th century, Ayutthaya’s began to reach prosperity from its status as a port city for the Chinese and European traders alike, allowing ample opportunities for cultural exchange with the westerners. It was during this period that the Boonnark had the opportunity to learn and adopt western thaumaturgy to replace their declining system.
Still, the process was done subtly as to not attract unduly attention. The new discipline of magic was gradually incorporated into the existing cultural narratives and mythological frameworks in a desperate attempt to save themselves from the shame of abandoning the traditional war to rely on the west.
Under the new magic discipline, the family came to find their affinity with reinforcement rune, called in their native tongue by the name of ‘Yant.' In the Southeast Asian societies where animistic theme is strong, the true nature of the spell is hidden under aesthetic rituals such as tattooing animal pattern onto one’s body as a symbolic representation of the rune’s power. From this point on, the elder of the period began to draft a new framework to direct the study of the newer generations, Muay Boran for cultivation of physical self, meditation for cultivation of inner self, and anatomy for the knowledge necessary to perform their reinforcement.
The Boonnark entered a state of decline when Ayutthaya kingdom eventually fell to the Burmese invasion in 1767. The chaos forced them to flee from their dwelling and take refuge in the forest, where they continued to live in relative seclusion with the other refugees.
Several years passed before the flame of war finally died down and from the ash of Ayutthaya emerged a new kingdom. Although their remaining members were quickly absorbed into the budding cities, their existence had become inconsequential for most part. Their connections remained, but their influences faded, leaving the family merely as a ghost clinging on to their aristocratic past.
The transition into the modern day did see some changes in the family structure. While the general framework remained, the rigor of the practice dwindled with time. The stay in the monastery might be encouraged, but, lacking in the necessary influence to enforce the policy, it is no longer mandatory for their children to do so.
Another major change was in their attitude toward the west. Up until the collapse of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the Boonnarks only maintained a distant relationship with the Association. The family was satisfied with their position in the society and lacked the vigor to push themselves up the social rung in the Association, a trend that was reversed not too long ago.
The loss of their influence back home spurred a sudden craving for influence within the Clock Tower where their first heirs were now sent to be educated. Although hindered by their late start, the Holy Grail might just exactly prove to be shortcut they needed.
MY HISTORY: //
As the second heir to the Boonnark family, Decha spent a significant portion of his early life in the monastery. In addition to ordinary education, it was here that he learned other skills deemed relevant to their subsequent military life and magic discipline.
In the environment that most would find tedious, the young Decha found peace, although it was one that didn’t last. Unlike the other more docile member of his family, the monastic life failed to contain him, not because longing for worldly entertainment, but rather because he was disturbed by all the evils that he heard of plaguing the outside world. The knowledge left him dissatisfied with the personal peace that the monastic life offered.
Before long, he came to view the monastic renunciation as a sign of physical weakness rather than spiritual development, a cloister full of those who gave up on the world rather than actively trying to make a change. The desire to act gnawed his inner peace and soon it grew into a craving. Imaginations fed his romantic notion of fighting the evils lurking beyond the wall of the monastery. Despite his mentor’s incessant rebuke, Decha continued to nurture his determination in secret.
When he was 18 years of age, the breaking point was reached. All the discontent that had been bottled up culminated in a major dispute between him and his mentor, one that caused him to turn his back on the monastic life. Spurred by the need to prove his mentor wrong, Decha announced his decision to return to lay life within that same night.
Through the family’s connection, he found a new home within the military. Nevertheless, the monastic life still remained a part that he could not leave behind. As a reminder, Decha still practice some of the monastic rule, most notably with keeping his head cleanly shaved and refusal to sleep on comfortable bed. The rigor of asceticism softened his transition into the disciplined military life, which he endured but seldom enjoyed.
Unsatisfied with simply patrolling peaceful region, Decha’s soon found his opportunity, when he was sent to the southernmost of Thailand, provinces long plagued by armed insurgents and terrorism. Certainly, there seemed to be no better cause to wage war than to restore peace to the region.
Decha slowly worked his way up the military hierarchy through quick-wittedness and occasional reliance on reinforcement spells. Still, he couldn’t help but feel that something was amiss. Years had passed since he had seen through and engaged in his share of violence and yet nothing seemed to be improving for the better. The conflict showed no sign of dying down. Deaths still occurred on daily basis, most of which he was powerless to intercede.
Despite their best attempt, the army’s attempt in suppressing the insurgents remained largely unsuccessful. What was initially believed to be a brief conflict was dragged on for several years with no apparent end in sight. It was in this setting that he was forced to confront the futility of his ideal.
Ironically, the violence that spurred his escape from the monastery ended being the very force that broke his naïve aspiration. A sense of despair sapped the earlier vigor from Decha. As a single individual, he holds no power to change even a single battlefield, much less the state of the whole world. Despite his intention, all that he managed was to merely feed the overwhelming cycle of violence.
Indeed, his mentor’s words rang truest in Decha’s dark moment. Regardless of justification, violence and mankind are too deeply intertwined to be separated. Such is the nature of things and, for him, it was no different.
Though disillusioned, Decha could not find the heart to return to the monastery. Now that he had truly tasted the evil that mans are capable of with his own senses, to be turning his back from it all was not a path he could condone. His heart might crave the return to monastic life, but he had already lost the innocence required to enjoy the personal serenity it offers.
Still, it seemed that all hope have yet to abandon him completely. An urgent call from the family head summoned Decha to Bangkok, where he was chosen to be family representative for the upcoming Holy Grail War.
To avoid the risk of losing their first heir who was the sole link between them and the Association, the elders settled on Decha as the most suitable among their available candidates to participate in the coming war, a decision made in part due to his experience in actual combat.
Decha initially received the news with a mixed feeling. As the second child of the family, he had not been granted the opportunity to interact much with the western magi. It seemed like a fool’s errand to be participating in a war that he’d never heard of, wielding power he would never otherwise imagine.
Nevertheless, the knowledge of Holy Grail’s ability to grant wish was a temptation he could not let go. Vexed by his powerlessness in face of the overwhelming evils in the world, the power that it offers might just be the factor that he needed to turn his ideal into a reality.
Just a few more enemies to defeat…
Just a handful more people to kill…
Then an ideal world free of all conflict and violence could be achieved. With his heart set ablaze with new-found determination, Decha was taught to some basic information about the war and sent off toward the city of Lucca.
MY GOALS: // To create an eternally peaceful world. Deeming human desire to be the root of all conflicts, he intends to wish for the grail for an alteration in mankind’s very nature, completely removing or at least alleviating their attachment to the worldly gain.
[/blockquote]
M4 Carbine: Standard assault rifle issued to most Thai infantry in combat zone. However, without the necessary enhancement from his spells, Decha’s proficiency with firearms is mediocre at best.
M1911 Pistol
Sig-Sauer SSG 3000: A common law enforcing sniper rifle, containing 5 rounds in internal magazine
KA-BAR Knife
Safehouse: A modest house in Lucca Vecchia, purchased by the elder of the Boonnarks through the use fake names and several realtors.
RANK: // None
ELEMENT: // Water
EXPERTISE: //
Reinforcement runes: The field of specialized magic in the Boonnark family, Decha’s arsenal of spells clearly reflects this inclination.
Pain Tolerance: Decha is no stranger to pain. He lived through being shot, stabbed, and other forms of physical traumas. As an avid practitioner of meditation, he learned how to shield his mind from being ravaged with physical suffering, further bolstering the threshold of pain he can endure.
Muay Boran: As a part of their early education in the monastery, Decha was trained in this art along with the other children of the Boonnarks. Unlike its milder counterpart, Muay Thai, which was later invented for sporting purpose, Muay Boran is intended to be used in a battlefield. As such, most of its techniques are offensively oriented, based on the sole idea of taking down the enemies as swiftly as possible. Decha’s proficiency with Muay Boran was further honed during his time in the military, where it was adopted by the Thai army for hand to hand combat.
MAGIC CIRCUITS: // As a member of long-standing family of Southeast Asian magi family, Decha’s magic capacity is fairly developed, allowing him to possess 12 magic circuits containing 15 prana each to a total of 180 prana
SPELLS: //
[Yant: Hanuman] (Rune, Reinforcement)
Rank: C
Cost: 20prana
Range: [Self]
Effect: The reinforcement spell derives its name from Hindu monkey god in the epic of Ramakien, worshipped prevalently in Thailand as symbol of loyalty and physical prowess. Likewise, the spell is designed to enhance the user’s capability in direct confrontation. Upon activation, the user’s muscle strength and reflex will be sharply reinforced, bolstering the strength and agility needed for effective utilization of the offensive-oriented Muay Boran. The spell turns him into a human weapon, granting sufficient physical prowess to break bone and collapse skull with bare limbs and potentially killing ordinary human through concussion or internal bleeding…Then again, most magi doesn’t quite fall into the category of ordinary human. Also, since his defensive power is not reinforced, to be using the spell against magi with long range offensive capacity can yield considerable risk. Lasts for 10 minutes
[Yant: Garuda] (Rune, Reinforcement)
Rank: C
Cost: 20prana
Range: [Self]
Effect: The reinforcement spell is tied to the symbolic representation of Garuda, a mythical bird-like creature in Hindu and Buddhist mythology, as a symbol of keen perception and mental fortitude. The user’s sense of vision, smell, and hearing will be enhanced upon activation along with the processing power of their brain to manage and analyze the influx of sensory information. In an effect, it allows him to perceive the world moving at slower pace. The spell is a solution to Decha’s mediocre skill with firearms, allowing him better coordination of subtle movements that will affect the trajectory of the bullet. Lasts for 10 minutes
[Yant: Mucalinda] (Rune, Reinforcement, Water)
Rank: B
Cost: 35prana
Range: [Self]
Effect: According to the legend, Mucalinda is snake-like being (naga) who shielded Buddha from a storm while he was meditating. Carrying the theme of protection and perseverance, the spell reinforces the caster’s entire body to be more resistant to damage and minimize susceptibility to pain. Among his reinforcement spells, this is the one that Decha is most proficient with and the one that he often discretely relies on in particularly dangerous combat situation. Ordinary bladed weapons, side arms, and D rank offensive spells are incapable of producing significant damage. However, the defense would no longer hold against higher calibers firearms, explosive, and spell of C rank or higher. At which point, all that it can do is to marginally increase his survival chance. Due to his elemental affinity with water, the spell is designed to be particularly effective against fire-element, allowing him to some extra resistance against C rank fire spell. Lasts for 10 minutes.
[Healing Ripple] (Water)
Rank: [D]
Cost: 15prana + 1 prana/minute
Range: [10 meters]
Effect: A three-line healing spell taught in the family alongside their reinforcement rune that uses water as a medium to infuse the caster’s prana into the target. To achieve its full potential, the spell needs to be activated in its ideal condition which requires the damage area to be submerged in water, the caster’s to be in constant contact with the target, and a certain amount of time depending on severity of the wound.
Shallow laceration + Bruises – 1 minute
Deep laceration + Minor bone fractures + Second degree burns– 10 minutes
Third degree burns – 20 minutes
Compound Fracture – 30minutes
The fact that these ideal conditions can be difficult to meet in a battlefield exists as its major weakness. While the spell could be used without necessary preparation, its effect will be diminished, thus it is only useful as an emergency aid during combat to roughly mend wound and stop bleeding of those within 10meters of the caster.
