- Loyal
- Even though he was a vagabond, Miyamoto Musashi still took the code of Bushido to heart when it came to his employer. Although most of the time this is done for selfish reasons.
- Brilliant but Lazy
- Despite being known as the greatest samurai of all times, it is known that Miyamoto Musashi was the laziest bastard out there, with him always coming late to the duels that he made the challenges out to, and living as a hermit as an old man really didn't help with his laziness, although he finished his book.
- Philosophical
- He tends to take a more philosophical approach when it comes to the craft of war. This was reflected on when he finished writing the Book of Five Rings. He also tends to say quotes here and there, all of them philosophical, even going as far as Voltaire and Nietzsche.
- Rude
- Any signs of him being polite is not visible to his current persona. He has almost respect for anything, and is pretty much one of the rudest people you will ever meet. His table manner is also lacking, as he has the tendencies to catch flies circling the table with his chopsticks. Well, this sort of trait goes hand to hand to his perception of anybody. He really is the type of person to find the dark character everyone hides.

STRENGTHS: // Hailed as the greatest swordsman who ever existed, Miyamoto Musashi is very difficult to match against with the sword. His observation skill that completely understood over sixty styles that he personally destroyed was on a level where it became his Noble Phantasm, and Miyamoto Musashi was always recognized as among the best of close combat experts, as his Noble Phantasms allowed him to deal with continuous encounter with Servants to be more effective with each new encounter. He can also deal with mental interference rather well, and it’s very difficult to understand his attacks.
WEAKNESSES: // His most useful Noble Phantasms are extremely draining in prana, depending on the level, and Musashi is a rather recent Servant, so he would be inferior in ability to much older Servants. His inability to also use extremely powerful Noble Phantasms outside of a counterattack meant to cancel out techniques may also prove to be fatal in the long run.

MY LEGEND: //
The Ronin’s Legend
MY HISTORY: // Born in 1584, Miyamoto Musashi did not have much of what one would call a childhood. He spent the first seven years of his life living a normal life, and then taken by his uncle when he was seven years old to be raised as a Buddhist. He had a fascination with weapons during this time, particularly swords, and he used sticks like a weapon with the same glee children had playing. Yes, to Miyamoto Musashi, the ways of the sword, the zen, the battles, all these were games in his eyes. The sword was the sole source of entertainment Miyamoto Musashi had as a child.
When he reached the age of thirteen, a challenge was issued by Arima Kihei in Hirafuku-mura. Miyamoto wrote his name, and received acceptance of the challenge. Dorin, his uncle, fearing for his nephew's life, begged for forgiveness to Arima, but the young Musashi ran in with a quarterstaff, yelling out a challenge. Arima attacked with a wakizashi, but Musashi knocked down the warrior and then struck him between the eyes. The young boy raised his weapon over hid head, and brought it down full force once more. He repeated this action over and over, beating Arima Kihei of the Shinto-ryu style to death. This was his first victory in a series of duels that will make him famous.
At the age of fifteen, Miyamoto began his journey for fame, dueling with a man named Akiyama in the northern part of Hyogo prefecture. He also participated in the Battle of Sekigahara, where he was on the losing side, and he escaped with his life. He went off to Kyoto, where he began a series of of duels with the Yoshioka school, challenging the master, Yoshioka Seijuro, to a duel. They agreed to meet in Rendaiji outside of Rakuhoku, a duel that Miyamoto arrived late to. This greatly irritated Seijuro, and Miyamoto ended the duel with one hit, crippling his opponent's left arm and effectively ending Seijuro's career as a swordsman. Seijuro passed the leadership of the school to his younger brother, Denshichiro, who promptly challenged Miyamoto to a duel. His opponent fought with a ball and chain, and the temple was destroyed in the process, but it ended with the same result as the duel before, with Musashi arriving late to the duel, as well as disarming his opponent and defeating him. Absolutely outraged by this point, the Yoshioka appointed the youngest sibling, twelve-year-old Matashichiro, as the new head, and assembled forces to attack and kill Miyamoto Musashi when he dueled Matashichiro. Breaking his previous habit of arriving late to the duels, Musashi arrived ten hours early and ambushed the forces, killing Matashichiro swiftly with his blade and ran off from the forces of the Yoshioka, effectively ending that branch of the Yoshioka school.
His next opponent was against a Buddhist Priest trained in the style of Hozoin-ryu while traveling to Kofuku-ji, Nara. The priest, a master of the staff, had claimed to surpass his own teacher, who was once the greatest staff user of the earlier Sengoku Era. As they began their duel on the temple grounds, Musashi had to end the duel with a draw due to increasing amount of potential enemies. Retreating to the mountains, he achieved an inner peace there that allowed him to easily defeat the staff master when he came rushing into the mountains to hunt Miyamoto Musashi with a real spear. Musashi spared his life.
Munisai, the father of Miyamoto Musashi, passed away soon after, and Musashi, returning to his home in the mountains near the village, received the teachings of his father. He came to realize the eternal truth for swordsman who seek perfection underneath the sky.
"Invincible under all of the Heavens." That was the final lesson of Munisai.
With that, Miyamoto Musashi proceeded to fight Shishido Baiken, a master of the kusarigama. Although he was famous as a bandit, Musashi found him dead with an unnamed assassin using his name and skill to replace him. As they dueled outside of the wrecked cabin, Musashi found himself seeing the world in a different light, truly understanding what it means to be "Invincible under all of the Heavens".
"The mountains were my only master, my only instructor, my only teacher."
Home in the mountains, he defeated the otherwise advantageous Shishido, cutting off the fingers on his right hand. With that, the assassin smiled at him, and thanked him for cutting the God of Death (Assassin) away from the spiral of death and murder. From that point on, Shishido Baiken lived in the cabin with a little girl he raised to be his daughter.
The next major fight was against a master of the five-foot staff, Muso Gonnosuke, in Edo. With that, the duel was one that spanned through the city like fire, as the duelists fought everywhere, wrecking stores and the stuff, until it ended with Musashi pointing his sword down on the unconscious staff user.
A small-time samurai by the name of Hayashi Osedo challenged Musashi, who beat down the rookie like there was no tomorrow. Osedo was then taken captive by a local bandit by the name of Tsujikaze Tenma, who was the older brother of the unnamed assassin that currently goes by the name of Shishido Baiken. Musashi charged into Tenma's hideout with a wooden sword on one hand and a katana in the other. He easily killed Tenma's gang with the katana, and beat the bandit to death with the wooden sword. Hayashi Osedo was eternally grateful for this, and proceeded to give information to Musashi about a famous swordsman in Ganryujima.
Heading off to Ganryujima, Miyamoto Musashi met the swordsman. This swordsman was a nodachi user, and Musashi arrived late to the duel, having spent his time carving a wooden sword from an oar. Furious, the swordsman attacked Musashi, cutting at him three times. In those three times, Musashi could've died. One was when his hair was cut by the first slash. Two was when his headband was removed. At this time, Musashi struck the swordsman at the head, who collapsed from the blow. As Musashi turned away, the swordsman slashed at his leg, nearly strike the heel. The final blow to the ribs was dealt by Miyamoto Musashi, who then escaped on a boat to the next island from the vengeful fans from the now dead swordsman. The swordsman was believed to be Sasaki Kojiro.
After this famous duel, Miyamoto Musashi began to enter the world of Sengoku politics, ending his ronin days. His final recorded duel was against Miyake Gunbei, who he insulted with a taunt when the samurai was sent from his own lord to kill Musashi. The duel was quick, with Miyamoto Musashi victorious, although he did not kill his opponent. He had fought sixty duels, winning all of them.
His only major recording of combat after his duels was when he participated in the Shimabara Rebellion. He was knocked off his horse when a rock from a random peasant was thrown at him, and he beat down the peasant in a rage, although he admits that his riding skills are lacking.
Suffering from neuralgia in his later years, the vagabond finally put down his sword and entered the life of a hermit. After finishing his work, The Book of Five Rings, he lived the left of his life in quiet, and dying of unknown causes, his last words being:
"I was invincible under all the heavens..."
MY GOALS: // None, really, but he’s interested in observing the new styles of combat the Holy Grail War has to offer him.
NOBLE PHANTASM: //
Niten Douraku
Invincible Under All the Heavens
Rank: B
Type: Support
Range: -
Max Targets: -
Effect:
Miyamoto Musashi was a samurai famous for never losing a duel, and for never getting killed in battle of any form. In fact, it was this that cemented his position as among the greatest swordsman of all time, as no one ever managed to slay Miyamoto Musashi, who died peacefully, having succeeded in becoming Invincible Under All the Heavens.
If Musashi enters a one-on-one battle with another Servant, he gains a bonus modifier on his STR, END, and AGI stats. However, if he fights more than one Servant, or faces against an Anti-Army/Anti-Fortress Noble Phantasm, he loses the bonus modifiers on those three stats, but gains a bonus modifier on the LUCK stat, as he’s going to need it to escape (despite the fact that he lost double the speed due to the loss of a modifier in AGI). However, should he be caught in a surprise attack, he does not gain any of the bonus modifiers, since Musashi was famous for performing the sneak attacks with Xanatos-level planning.
Hyouhou Niten Ichi-ryuu
Two Heavens, One Style
Rank: A
Type: Support
Range: -
Max Targets: -
Effect:
As the man who was most well-known for defeating his opponents with wooden swords carved literally on the spot, Miyamoto Musashi's skill to create weapons for any duel is absolute. In fact, he won most of his duels using oars, sticks, all that jazz. It’s somewhat rare for him to draw his sword, but since he grew up with using sticks as a weapon, he finds that using weapons he made as opposed to given to him are more comfortable to use.
The effects of the Noble Phantasm allow Musashi to use any weapons outside of his katana as a D-rank Noble Phantasm. He is capable of using another Noble Phantasm as his own, but it would be degraded one rank, as it is not an "improvised" weapon that he made himself, but a weapon that was known to belong to someone else. And before you ask, yes, he can dual wield them.
CLASS ABILITIES: //
Magic Resistance: C
Protection against magical effects. Differently from the Resistance effect that merely rejects prana, this ability cancels the spells altogether. Important to note that the term "verse" seen bellow refers to a set of three lines. Thus, a chant of two verses is equivalent to a Six-Line incantation. Musashi received this mostly due to the nature of the class itself.
Riding: C
Most creatures can be rode with average skill. However, Musashi is unable to ride those of Demoniac Beast and Holy Beast-rank. Musashi rode his fair share of boats (to escape), horses (during cases where he served in the military), but he’s just as good as any regular Servant. He receives this mostly due to the nature of the class itself.
SKILLS: //
Eternal Arms Mastership: A+
Prevents degradation of fighting skills when under the effect of mental hindrance.
A+: Miyamoto Musashi was known to be “Invincible Under All The Heavens” during times of duel. Yes, he was never matched in his ability with the sword, and at this rank, mastership of combat arts has reached the point of being said to be unrivaled in one's era. By complete merging of mind, body and technique, it is possible to make use of full fighting skills even when under the influence of any sort of mental hindrance.
Expert of Many Specializations: B
Access to and use of many expert skills.
B: A total of 10 different skills ranging from tactics, academia, espionage, assassination, swindling, rhetoric and others can be used with proficiency of Rank C or above. Miyamoto Musashi was famous for being a swordsman, an artist, and many other things, due to his application of his beliefs written out in the Book of Five Rings on activities and skills outside of swordsmanship. These ten skills includes: calligraphy, art, poetry, literature, carpentry, guerrilla, intimidation, lecture, farming, religion.
Disengage: C
The ability to break away from combat.
C: Musashi’s ability to escape from hostilities and/or deal with them personally, in his own way granted him this Personal Skill at this rank. Bonus effect of returning battle conditions to what they were at the beginning of the match.
Heart of Harmony: B
Prevents decrease in the effectiveness of a technique, regardless how many times it is used against the same opponent.
B: Musashi is regarded as the greatest swordsman all of Japan has ever known, in part due to his belief that one should not be confined to one style. In creating his style, he ultimately broke down many styles and created his own hybrid style from what he felt was the best. As such, his style does not actually follow its own forms, as the Niten Ichi-ryuu deserted forms outside of the basic for the sake of winning battles through “the spirit of victory”. At this rank, all his attacks are nearly impossible to perceive.

MISC. INFORMATION: // Switching with Fred, and I did a lot of stuff on researching Musashi, so in the end, I had a new NP in mind and some edits with his skills and all that jazz. The new NP is similar to how Lancelot can retain the ranks of Noble Phantasms he stole from Gilgamesh, although in Musashi’s case, they were very limited. Now, as I have made a lot of changes on this profile, due to the fact that I’m moving it and all, and this will have to undergo the approval process once more, I will list why I made certain changes on the technical aspects of the profile:
[History] Took liberties with the Kojiro thing. Apparently, Sasaki Kojiro was an amalgamation of several of Musashi’s opponents, from what I’ve read in regards to Nasuverse’s Kojiro.
[MR] Was approved in previous profile.
[Riding] He’s a Saber, and it’s a class skill. It should’ve been there in the first place. I mean, he did ride boats and horses.
[First NP] I changed his first Noble Phantasm by tacking on that tidbit with the Luck modifier because I found out that Musashi was actually pretty good at dealing with armies: escaping. Also, he never got caught. I feel like this constitutes a modifier for that much, but I still got rid of the AGI modifier should he meet an army just to make the NP a little more fair. It’s not like he ran like hell to escape armies, he simply had a plan and the luck needed to pull it off to escape. It's similar to Military Tactics, except Musashi never lead battles, and although he was famous as a stragetist, he wasn't famous for war tactics.
[Second NP] I upped the rank on the improvised NPs from E to D, because looking at other KoH-copies on other Servants, it struck me that Musashi actually made his own improvisation weapons as opposed to just taking a weapon lying around like Spartacus or Esfandyar, who were trained in combat with such weapons. The improv NP could be famous for having been created and used by Musashi in contrast to being an improv weapon grabbed and held by the earlier two names. I think it makes sense for him to have D-rank NPs that he himself made into an NP first, and for a rank-down on any NP he stole from a Servant, since he didn’t “make” it into an NP, seeing that it was an NP in the first place. Basically, because he makes his own NPs and has the benefit of knowing how it should be used, when compared to being trained in a general form with a type of weapon, and being able to use those weapons effectively, I think this change is well-justified.
[EAM] Was approved in previous profile.
[Expert of Many Specializations] Since I can’t recall ever reading an account where Musashi threw his sword and was successful in winning, or where throwing that sword was ever all that important in terms of turning the tides of victory as opposed to just taking out fodder, I removed Projectiles (Daggers). I was wavering between his many skills due to his way of life and the fact that he deliberately won many duels because of his trapping ability, and I ended up choosing the former, since he didn’t win a lot of his duels through traps. He just pissed them off. Since Musashi was as much as an artist as he was a swordsman, I think the skill and the rank is justifiable.
[Disengage] Yes, he did this, plenty of times, and it never turned out bad for him, like in that duel with Sasaki Kojiro (where he didn’t fight the TG user, the one on Ganryujima), how Musashi killed Kojiro then escaped from the rest of Kojiro’s battle party.
[HoH] My reasoning is better stated in the actual skill description itself.
…So yeah, it’s just about a new profile now.[/ul]
