- Knight Wannabe “W-wait! I am a knight, just don’t deny it like that!”
- Yes, this is another form of the “Don Quixote Complex”. Gabrielle had spent her entire life pining for that amazing thing known as knighthood. Well, she’s a kid, and it’s not like one can get knighthood so easily when one isn’t even twenty yet. Of course, Gabrielle knew that she probably won’t earn her knighthood via military achievement, so she’s seeking to earn a membership in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, mainly because it’s for people with literary achievement. Oh yes, Gabrielle spent a whole lot of time writing, and believes that when she’s finally thirty, she will get her beloved rank of Chevalier. Nonetheless, she still has something of a knight’s code of honor, and is one who likes to be honorable and…stuff like that. She also puts up a cool façade in public, making herself seem more level-headed and charming in public, but when you actually get to talk to her…well…she’s…
- Easily flustered ”W-wha!? No! No, no, no, no, no! I am not embarrassed! I didn’t say anything wei-oh no. I just dug my own grave!”
- Maybe it was because Gabrielle spent most of her life daydreaming the idealistic knighthood dream, but she never did get around to building the proper confidence needed to tackle social life. Despite her somewhat casual style of dress, she has a personality akin to that of a nervous bunny. In fact, that comparison has been made all too many times, something that upsets her to no end. A true knight is a lion, after all. She’s not shy though, she tries to be social, but her lack of tact makes it hard for her to continue being social. Because of her tendency to get embarrassed, Gabrielle can be seen as a…
- Crybaby “I’m…not…crying…sniff…WAAAAAAH!”
- This goes hand-to-hand with her tendency to get flustered. Gabrielle gets upset so easily that she tends to break down and start crying whenever she’s upset. The worst part? She gets upset easily, scared easily, all these other stuff that leads to tears easily. Well, it’s a good thing that it resulted in a kind nature, but she still has things to take care of in regards to how she handles situations. Nonetheless, despite her tendency to let out tears, Gabrielle also happens to be a…
- Trooper “A knight never gives up, never backs down, never gives in to evil-” Cut it out with the shounen hero bullshit and go kick some ass already! “…Sniff…”
- As in the knight’s code of honor, a promise is a promise, even if the promise is to yourself. Gabrielle made it a rule to herself that she will continue fighting until she won, and despite her tendency to get embarrassed easily, she will still continue getting embarrassed until she was finished with what she had to do. It’s rather respectful to see once you can get past the pathetic sight of a girl crying while going up against an extremely difficult situation until she won. However, she is also rather stubborn, and likes to stick with your opinions. This tends to culminate in a heated argument with Gabrielle in tears.

STRENGTHS: // Gabrielle is the type of stubborn character that will continue going on until she succeeded. She’s also a melting pot of trivia and information, given that she likes to read a lot. She’s not an introvert, per se, but she’s not a people’s girl. Also, she tends to be resourceful, and she likes to work outside of magic while using magic, meaning that she uses magic in new and different ways.
WEAKNESSES: // Given her age, Gabrielle is not the strongest of magus, and to top it off, she has an idealistic view in life, not a realistic one. While this isn’t bad in one perspective, and Gabrielle does indeed know about lengths of the cruelty of people, she gets upset easily whenever she sees and/or hear something that goes against her belief about people and life in general. Also, as she gets embarrassed easily, Gabrielle tends to lack a coherent train of thought for most of the battle.

MY FAMILY LINE: // Um, family line? Well, we're not the oldest family out there, but we're not the youngest either. How do I say this...well, I guess I have to give a full-on explanation on my family history? I guess I do...well, here goes!
The beginning of my family line would be around the time of the Hundred Years' War. I'm actually a direct descendant of Jean II, the Duke of Alencon, who lead the French army side by side Jeanne d'Arc against the Bourbon French and English military. I think my family had been traced to an illegitimate child of his, who went by the name of Robert. Seeing how far back that was, which was around the late 1400, I would estimate my family history to be around 650 years old. And yes, we're a middle-aged family.
My guess is that Robert probably founded the family Magic Crest after contact with English magus from the Association, who came to France for research. The English magus probably did not know that Robert was the bastard child of the French army's general, since Robert didn't exactly flaunt that information unless needed. After all, Robert was disowned by his father and the such, so why should he use his father's name when it wasn't even within his rights to do so?
The magi just saw a young man who wanted to perform the same miracles they did, and who showed potential for the art. As such, they took Robert under their tutelage, and my family crest was crafted. Robert also had some sort of a social life because he became a magus, and obviously had to transfer the crest to someone else. So he had a family, and although he was but the son of a disgraced general and a mistress, he managed to marry a woman of class, after some help from his English teachers, who provided a cover of funds for the start of this family. English, France, it doesn't matter in the eyes of magecraft...although there was no denying that they would've been racist to an oriental family.
So Robert married a woman of somewhat high class, and used this opportunity to integrate himself into the quasi-noble world. Through this, he hoped that future children of this family line will be met with what he would refer to as "the perfect breeding material for this family line". Kind of a scientist's definition of family, but the people in my family history rolled with it nonetheless.
Of course, although the magic crest would be well-developed, it didn't do justice to our magic circuits. Some families seem to use sorcery traits, and marry other magus family to preserve/improve the quality of magic circuits. We married into another magus family maybe 40% of the time. This got us a bit of a bad rep in the Clock Tower, who believed that the Fournier family line lacked "the pride of magi."
Over time, my family has been a little better about marrying into magus family since maybe two centuries ago. This resulted in slightly better circuits, although most 40% of marrying into magus families was made in that period of time. Nonetheless!
My family line had no known sorcery trait, but we do practice magecraft of the fire and water range. Oh, we're also one of the few surviving noble families from the Reign of Terror, so we are somewhat rich, although my dad still runs a successful business in trade. Yup, my family staked out in good ol' England, under a different name, of course. Oh, and it was around this point that they started marrying into other magi families more often. So my family started to roll between England and France for the next two centuries, and where does modern time find the Fournier family? In England. And now comes the time for me to get into my personal history, because, you know, I wasn't really meant to be the heir of this family.
MY HISTORY: // The heir of the Fournier family would actually be my older brother, Andre. Andre Fournier was a typical magus, really. He had a handsome face, at least from what other people told me, and had an air of disinterest and arrogance around him when it came to normal people. To most members of mankind, he would come off as guarded and collected. In actuality, he thought so low of most people that he wouldn't even bother noticing them. So yeah, Andre went to the Clock Tower, got the magic crest, the whole nine yards.
And myself? Well, I happen to be the third child of this magus family, and I had an older sister. Yes, I was the youngest. My older sister, Sophie, was to be married off to another magus family, who were around the same age as my family. I'm not too sure about the name of the family, but it was some English family whose name really is not important for this story- wait, you want to know?
...I don't know. I DON'T KNOW, OKAY!? WAAAAAAAAH!
Several minutes and ten tissues later:
Okay, okay, calm down, Gabrielle, take a deep breath...I CAN'T DO THIS! Wait, wait, fwoooo...
Back to story telling!
So yes, my sister is being married to some nameless family. As for myself, well, they haven't had plans that were quite cemented on my part. In regards to my childhood...I clung to Sophie. Sophie, who was less of a magus than Andre in terms of personality, used to read me stories, mostly about Charlemagne and his paladins. Song of Roland was especially good, and the martyrdom of the hero was something that inspired me about the lengths of human sacrifice. Of course, I eventually read stories of heroes from all over the world, and the chivalry these heroes displayed in the face of carnage and death made me look up to them as my ideal "person". Sophie was mixed into their as well, I could never see Sophie in any sort of flaw, and although Sophie did her best to convince me otherwise, I still remain unconvinced. Yes, I know Sophie probably has flaws, but I will never see her with those flaws defining Sophie Fournier.
Of course, I grew up looking up to heroes and all that. When I went to elementary school, kids would talk about celebrities or heroes in television. I would be by myself, enjoying those old stories about knights who spearheaded the way into human compassion and endless glory.
What if I were to become a person like that?
That was the single thought that continued to drive me, and I knew the first thing I wanted to be in this life was to be a knight. Modern-day knights may not be anything like knights from my childhood, but if I was granted the title of knight, and began to bring back the values of chivalry, then perhaps the knights of back then will be revived! My belief is that somewhere deep in all of us, the values and the spirit of the knight still remain!
Anyways, I grew up the childhood of a normal kid, actually. Despite my family's age and attempts to become a true magus family, my parents saw no reason to instill the magus values into a child who would never enter that world outside of name, so they found it in themselves to grant me the stuff of modern day. Yes, I went to libraries, but I used a computer there. Yes, I watched television, although I'm mostly watching history channel. Yes, I got a cellphone, although the model is a little outdated. Really, the Fournier family is a little slow in terms of catching up.
Anyways, I entered through my middle school days with relative normality present in such a experience. I experienced my first crush, and we dated for maybe two weeks before we broke up. I came to realize he wasn't the chivalrous boy I was lead to believe. I maintained high grades so that I could enter a prestigious school without the need for my parent's money as a deciding factor to get me in. A true knight would match up feats with position, and show that a knight truly deserved a reward. So I ended up working hard to get into that school. Really, it meant a lot to me, this pride of mine. Oh, and my crybaby tendencies got me teased somewhat during middle school. Most girls didn't cry nearly as much as I did. I would break down in tears when a teacher asked me a question, even if I did know the answer.
Entering the high school of my dream, my crybaby tendencies were reduced somewhat. Well, I still cried, no denying that. Nonetheless, I continued to persevere, because that's what a knight does, persevere. My high school life was also quiet, although this time, I've yet to get myself a high school sweetheart. I don't need drama like that again.
Of course, Sophie left my life at around this time, and it upset me greatly. I guess this might've helped me reduce my tears, I cried so much that it matched the amount I cried my entire life before Sophie's departure. Well, yeah, of course I was sad! Sophie was the paragon of virtue and love in my life!
Anyways, Andre came back to replace Sophie. He didn't change much, although my friends did comment on how handsome he was. I beg to differ, Andre is not attractive at all, once you get to know the nasty personality he had on him. Unlike Sophie, who filled my life with heroes, Andre filled my life with his magecraft. He seemed so intent in proving to every single person in his family of his talents and achievements that he would use magecraft in the vicinity of the Fournier mansion. It was so frequent that in the two years I spent living with Andre, I ended up learning basic magecraft. Andre seemed happy, it was to be expected that I could use magic, since I was of the magus family. His sister casting spells meant that his family truly deserved the title of a magus family. But of course, my skills with magic weren't much, and I lacked a crest to stabilize my spells anyways.
Around the time I turned sixteen, I began planning my entry into nobility by writing a literary masterpiece when I turn thirty fourteen years later. It was also at around this time that Andre became slightly more...distant? He never used magic nearly as much, and he was spending his time in the workshop.
One night, I was getting some drink to help me sleep when I passed the family study. I heard some shouting, and I listened in onto something they called "Heaven's Feel".
Apparently, Andre wanted to enter this competition as to truly prove the worth of his family. The Fournier family did get a bad rep for lacking the pride of a magus, and Andre received a lot of...comments in regards to this. Andre called my father names, and my father replied in return, while my mother tried to mediate the fight.
To summon a hero from the past...it seemed interesting, truth be told. To top it off, I was a little fed up with Andre's attitude. When everyone went to bed that night, I snuck into the study, and layed my eyes on a helmet. It was...really big. I mean, seriously, what kind of monster would've used that helmet? It looked daunting too, and I shuddered to think who Andre was planning to summon. But I wanted to get back at Andre, and upon hearing exactly what the Holy Grail War was about, well, I had to get the Holy Grail. It was like the ultimate goal for Arthurian Knights. If I got it, I would have the feats necessary to match up to a knight's name. Not only that, I would show Andre, who thought of his family so poorly because they lacked some worthless pride.
So I got to work. I read a lot, and I knew technology, even if it was slightly outdated knowledge. It was still enough for me to make two foreign bank accounts, using Andre's name, and then transferring a certain amount of funds into one account, and then transferring that amount to the other count. The last touch was too destroy the first account, to reduce the chances of the transaction traced to my account.
I felt really bad that I had to do this, I was doing no better than a criminal. The only thing comforting me was that Andre would've done it anyways, and that I had a more noble goal in mind. With that, I talked to my parents about transferring to Lucca for school. The funny thing is, my school in France happened to have an exchange program to another school in Lucca. It felt like Fate wanted me to join this war.
I used this as an excuse, and my parents knew that I liked knowledge, and wanted to get somewhere in the world outside of the Association. So they granted me their permission to go, and I got money as well for the transfer. I spent that money to stuff that helmet into a private jet flying to Lucca, with me inside of it, drinking a glass of red wine. Yes, I had to drink it. It felt so perfect at the time.
So I arrived in Lucca, and after registering my name under "Gabrielle Chevalier", since I came here to become such a figure, I got a message from my parents telling me that Andre has run off, believing that a thief stole his catalyst. My parents believe he just lost it and were rather peeved that they lost a lot of money at that, believing Andre stole it to fund his hunt. After I ended the call, I sighed. Andre was never so close to the truth before in his entire life.
...ARGH! I'm so angry at myself! I went against my code of honor! ...No turning back now, I guess.
MY GOALS: // Get the Grail, show my worth as a knight, and earn myself the right to show Andre that I'm not some political pawn. I don't need to get married to someone I don't know, and yes, I saw your journals, and I know you tried to get me married off.

Emergency Funds- Plenty of it. Enough to last Gabrielle for about six months in hedonistic luxury, although she bought a simple house in the middle class area of Lucca. Of course, her parents thought Andre ran off with the money, but of course, it was Gabrielle that performed the transfers.
Cellphones- About fourteen of them. Gabrielle figured that despite the slightly outdated technology, she can switch between phones every day to reduce chances of being traced by some other participant who knows technology as well. Seven for her, and seven for her Servant, and she plans to teach her Servant on how to use the phone.
Knives- About ten of them. She needs them to defend herself, of course, and to practice knifeplay some more, so that she can get slightly stronger. She cried silently when she packed these knives instead of her favorite book, but she knew where to prioritize.
RANK: // None
ELEMENT: // Fire, Water
EXPERTISE: //
Fountain of Knowledge Equals Batman Resourcefulness- Gabrielle read a lot during her childhood, and watched a lot of history channel. She pretty much learned a whole bunch of information that would be helpful in real life, and it got to the point where she can apply her knowledge to many forms of application. It got to the point where she could be considered "Batman-tier resourceful", which is an overstatement, but she's resourceful.
Technology- Gabrielle was allowed the chance to live a normal childhood, if a little outdated in the standards of the norm. Nonetheless, Gabrielle knows how to use phones, operate computers for research, all that jazz. She even knew how to successfully pull off a heist using outdated knowledge, which is kind of funny.
Knifeplay- Something that Gabrielle picked up when Andre came back. To put it simply, the day Andre came back, Gabrielle was on Youtube watching videos of this, and she totally had to learn. Plus, it would help with self-defense. Yes, it was self-taught...but she's still good at it! Better than most people, at least. She can throw knives rather well, at least.
MAGIC CIRCUITS: // Gabrielle comes from a middle-aged family. She has 20 circuits with a quality of 6 prana per circuit, resulting in 120 prana total.
SPELLS: //
Fireball (Fire)
Rank: E
Cost: 3 Pr
Range: 5m
Effect: Increases temperature in the oxygen molecules within the caster's grasp until it ignites. Can be thrown to a distance of up to 5m before dissipating. Causes 2nd-3rd degree burns. Its destructive capacity can be compared to throwing a live torch at somebody.
A one-line spell common to most fire magi. Some older families have stabilized it to the level of Single Action in their Crests.
This spell has a checkered background, and it is believed to have simultaneously originated in different countries around the world within a specific time period, much like gunpowder. That hasn't stopped some very ancient families from continuously claiming the credit for developing it.
Gabrielle casts this with one line.
Flumen Infernalis (Fire)
Rank: C
Cost: 18 Pr
Range: 20m
Effect: Latin for 'River of Hell', the spell is not so much a thaumaturgical version of Greek Fire as it is the thaumaturgical inspiration of Greek Fire. A variety of fire that not only is water resistant but in fact hydrophilic, attempting to counter this attack with water spells is complete idiocy, as wetting it will only make it burn harder. Causes 4th degree burns on targets, if not downright burning them to a crisp. It is a creeping fire that initially manifests as a fireball the size of a marble. Once it strikes a flammable surface, it will spread relentlessly, impervious to liquids and wind. It is best countered with smothering.
A two-verse spell that is taught at the more advanced levels, older families with this in their Crests have stabilized it to the level of Four-Liner. Affinity to Water is not a requirement for this spell, nor does it improve its capabilities.
River of Hell was developed in the Byzantine Empire in the 6th Century AD, by a group of magi in the heart of Constantinople. Various chemists at the time who unwittingly witnessed the event sought to replicate this magecraft and scientifically developed Greek Fire, which went on to be used by the Byzantine Navy. Greek Fire, however, is inferior to the spell, as it can be put out by liquids such as old vinegar or strong urine, aside from smothering.
Gabrielle casts this as a two-verse spell.
Lifesblood (Water)
Rank: E
Cost: See Below
Range: -
Effect: A spell that absorbs water molecules in the air to create a more cohesive form to use as raw spell fodder. With enough time and raw matter it is possible to create large bodies of water.
Originally created as a spell for filtration of water and raw material finding, it has recently been found to have the ability to increase its power and efficiency tenfold with merely half the prana that would be required for ten individual spells. If one liter of water would cost two prana, two liters would cost three and so on. The required prana expended thus greatly decreases, making it and incredbly efficient ability while being cheap.
As many water spells require a catalyst in the form of a body of water, it has become an essential ability in guaranteeing the new found offensive capabilities of water magi. It can also be used to purify common water by decomposing the molecules and then reforming them. The spell can also be used to manipulate small bodies of water into various shapes and easily store the production results. A skilled Magus can also decompose already established shapes such as ice and create new water out of it, thus recycling materials nearly endlessly.
Gabrielle casts this at one line.
Freezing Lance (Water/Ice)
Rank: D
Cost: 10 Pr
Range: 15m, Straight line single-shot, dissolves on impact
Effect: Low damage e prana costing, Freezing Spear is a ranged attack mostly useful for quick jabs or low key assassination works. Being weak, it leaves few traces as the condensed and frozen water simply melts on impact after the prana composing its shape disappears. As a result, being hit by one simply looks as if someone dropped a bucket of water on the target. As the spear is not completely made of ice as the prana infused into it keeps it partially flowing, it is also not so lethal and mostly inflicts blunt wounds. Its low speed keeps it from being more used but it is a common and easy to produce magic widely used.
It was initially developed as a counter to long range attacks that water mages could not defend themselves against as many water magi are more healers than attackers by trade. Its ease of use guaranteed its filtering through most common ranks of magi society and it is still a staple spell for most beginner mages that is widely used even by more advanced ranks. It can be fired in rapid succession as well.
Gabrielle casts this at three lines.
