- Cordial
- Always ready with a polite smile and nod. It is very difficult to make him outright dislike you, or at least show it. Although his politeness can come off as patronizing or sarcastic at times.
- Intelligent
- As a student of deductive reasoning there are few things Aashiq enjoys more than a problem to be solved. He is intelligent, logical, and thorough in his thought processes. Unfortunately, all this knowledge leaves little room for what can be considered "common sense" Prone to over-thinking, Aashiq is a fairly eccentric individual whose theories tend to follow a cyclical path of Illuminated brilliance and nonsensical rubbish.
Lazyinformal- Feels no reason to rush and is eager to show it. Aashiq is fond of a more relaxed lifestyle. He enjoys sleeping in, taking slow and pleasant strolls, and reading. He is far from a morning person, being incredibly groggy for several hours after waking and refusing to take in caffeine of any sort. Usually the only occasions on which he is on time involve very good food, attractive women, or when he has run out of cigarettes.
- Non-confrontational
- A thinker, not a fighter; Aashiq tends to avoid direct confrontation whenever possible. Enemies are problems to be solved, and few problems can be solved easily with brute force after all. Some have called this tendency "dishonorable" or "cowardly". Aashiq prefers to phrase it as "better than dead"
LIKES: //

DISLIKES: //
Appointments (not involving any of the above)

Driving anything more complicated than a bicycle
The color Yellow ("It's really just an atrocious color")
STRENGTHS: //
He is clever, resourceful, and somewhat unpredictable. Able to cobble together plans on the fly, with a (fairly) high rate of success. Although preferring the finer things in life, Aashiq is quite capable of living comfortably in a box on the street. At his best he has been described as "Brilliant", "Charming", and "Genuinely quirky".
WEAKNESSES: //
In the early morning hours, Aashiq is slow to react and his thought processes are lacking considerably. His strategies become random and nonsensical, following a path of logic only his half-asleep brain understands. Even while totally awake Aashiq's plans can backfire spectacularly; as he is prone to creating incredibly convoluted strategies where a well-applied kick could suffice. He is physically in rather poor shape, instead relying on his brain to get him out of tight spots. Aashiq is particularly weak to the temptations of beautiful women, an attribute that has proven his undoing more than once before. He's sworn off women close to seven times now, and these vows scarcely last longer than a week.
At his worst, he's been described as "Lazy", "Obsessive-Compulsive", and "genuinely unhinged".

MY FAMILY LINE: //
The Nassar family, while fairly established at six hundred years old, is broken and scattered across the globe. Family members maintain only loose ties to the head branch situated in Egypt. This has lead to massive dilution of the bloodline and some even whisper (far from the ear's of the Head of the family) that the entire family may fall apart within several decades.
The original plan, begun around 150 years ago, had been to spread the Nassar bloodline far and wide, quantity, not quality was the goal here; and it was believed that if there were numerous possible heirs vying for the family crest, then only an extremely competent magus would be able to take control, giving a boost in power to the family enough to challenge older or more established bloodlines. In true Nassar fashion, the plan backfired spectacularly, with the few promising members producing non-magi children. It became known as the "Missing Generation", where there was so little talent to be found that few bothered to contact the head branch or other families now scattered across the globe. Since then, more generations have passed with little improvement in the bloodline, most members of the newest generation either don't know, or don't care about the "family business". The few remaining competent mages consolidated themselves in Cairo and are attempting to lay out a new strategy, this time focused not on gaining power, but simply surviving.
The Nassar Magi are specialists in Water and air spells, primarily condensation and kinetics, although never particularly famous, their loss in power over the centuries has lead to them dropping contacts with other families and leading into their fade into obscurity.
MY HISTORY: //
Aashiq was born Jeremiah Nassar in the northern suburbs of Chicago. His parents made no secret of their family's history, and for the longest time he and his parents were convinced that he had no inherent talent and was not worth reporting to the Main branch.
Young Jeremiah grew up normally, or tried to. In secret he discovered his power at the age of ten. He practiced his skill using hand-me-down books that had been locked away in the basement (Jeremiah, a precocious scamp, had been picking locks since he was eight). However, he had no intentions of becoming the next bearer of the family crest, planning on using his power for personal gain. However, the books were old and there were not particularly many of them. Jeremiah, thirsty for knowledge, wanted more. He spent his teen years experimenting in secret. Every obstacle was another problem to be unraveled. Other quandaries and riddles seemed obvious and tame compared to trying to learn Thaumaturgy from the ground up. His parents were useless, none of them knew a thing about the craft, and if they knew they might send him off to Cairo. Sure it might be easier, but where's the fun in that? Jeremiah had lost sight of his goals, now consumed by wringing every last piece of knowledge that he could from the books and his own hands.
However, by the time Jeremiah was in his late teens it was becoming more and more apparent to his parents that he was not normal. They never bugged him about his secrecy, he got straight A's so he was probably studying. But come across the (occasionally catastrophic) results of experimental magecraft one too many times and suspicions were raised. Jeremiah knew it was time to book it, and promptly left home to seek his fortune at the age of nineteen.
He tried putting his mind and talent to good use as a private investigator, but his lack of formal training, his young age, and general laziness proved to be a hindrance. Unfortunately, his parents, worried for the safety of their son, had contacted the Nassar estate in Cairo, and they had come to the states to track Jeremiah down. However, the chase was not an easy one. If there was one thing Jeremiah could do, it was run, he evaded his pursuers for two years, surviving where he could. He didn't even know why he was running. Capture meant a warm place to live, good food, and all the knowledge a six hundred year old family can offer. But something about it just didn't sit right, maybe he wanted freedom, maybe he didn't want to have to accept a whole new persona and way of life for people who hadn't cared about him for most of his life, maybe he just didn't like to lose. By the time retainers of the Nassar family found him down, Jeremiah was living mostly in the streets.
He was carried off to Egypt at the age of 21 and formally indited into the Nassar family, given the name Aashiq (although he prefers Jeremiah), and encouraged to continue his study (which he tore into, although he feigned a begrudging attitude) . While lacking a large number of quality magic circuits, Aashiq took the handicap as a challenge and continued to perfect spells that suited his non-confrontational personality. After a great deal of goading, Jeremiah grudgingly accepted the position of retainer, and eventually the family crest (Although by family tradition he will not run the family affairs until the death of his predecessor, in this case his first cousin twice removed).
Having little interest in running a fading family, Aashiq began searching for a solution, not out of love for the family, but out of his own love of solving problems, and the Nassar family had some massive problems on the horizon. It was in his studies that Aashiq learned of a new Holy Grail War that would be starting in Italy. If the Nassar family won it would bring much needed prestige to the name, and surely he could find some use for the grail. He began making preparations, his coat, his bag, and (after a little goading of his own) the family heirloom, Pragmatist's Eye. A servant? He'll take care of it when he got there. This was going to be a challenge, possibly the biggest challenge of his life. Aashiq Jeremiah set his alarm clock (a first in his life) before his flight to Italy, and dreamed dreams of locks and keys.
The game was afoot.
MY GOALS: //
"Solve" one of the most complicated "problems" of all time to bring renown back to the family he was doomed to inherit.
Fame, power, and women? That'd be good too...
[/blockquote]
Beloved Trench coat
An old, worn, and fairly dirty brown trench coat Aashiq has had for years. Has very large pockets on the inside and makes a halfway decent blanket.
Switchblade Knife
Sharp, pointy, good for knifin' and little else. He doesn't like using it and isn't particularly skilled but isn't stupid enough to enter a war unarmed.
Bag of Stuff
Luck does indeed favor the prepared. Aashiq carries at all time a small drawstring sack (usually in his coat pocket) containing the following: Thirty-seven(37) ball-bearings, seven(7) paper clips (poor man's lock picking equipment), several feet of string, and a 2 kg. steel weight (doesn't do anything, just makes the sack hurt more if he hits you with it).
Pragmatist's Eye
His mystic code and family heirloom, used by the family to track him down in America when he was younger. (see spells for details)
RANK: // Not applicable (He recieved in-family training, and the Nassar family has not been in touch with the Mage's Association in a long time.)
ELEMENT: // Air/Water
EXPERTISE: //
Fast on his Feet - Despite his generally lazy attitude, Aashiq knows how to book it. A swift sprinter and accomplished cross-country runner, he is able to run long distances without slowing down.
Observant - It's hard to get something past his notice. With a near-photographic memory, numerous details most would ignore can trigger insight. However, this has backfired in a truly spectacular manner before, and it's difficult for him to differentiate between something hidden, and something actually irrelevant.
Freerunner - Aashiq is an amateur user of parkour and can and has used these skills for swift retreats and to remain elusive in urban environments. Combined with his observant nature and swift mind, he can find and successfully utilize a path of movement on the fly. He is, however, still an amateur and is prone to occasional injury.
MAGIC CIRCUITS: //
9 circuits with 6 PpC, 54 prana total
SPELLS: //

Wind at my Heels (air)
Rank:D
Cost: 12 prana
Range: 6 inches
Effect: Creates a small whirlwind around the Caster's feet, greatly increasing the velocity of the next step and essentially launching the caster forward horizontally at great speed (about 10 meters per second) allowing for long leaps or quick getaways.
The spell is only used for the initial burst and the landing can be rather painful. (Rolling is recommended)
"Better in the hospital than in the grave."
Lost in the Fog (Water/Air)
Rank:B
Cost: 30 prana(10 more every two minutes to keep active)
Range: Approximately 30 meter radius around the caster
Effect: The molecules of water in the air are condensed to form a thick fog that limits visibility to less than half a meter. The fog spreads to a radius of 15 meters immediately after casting, then continues to the maximum spread in the following 15 seconds. The caster maintains innate knowledge of the location of the Fog's boundaries (which tend to shift slightly), allowing for easy escape from the field. When used outdoors, the fog will rise approximately ten feet into the air and attempt to spread to its maximum distance, but cannot pass through solid barriers such as walls and windows. The fog can pass through barriers with holes (such as broken windows or chain link fences) the whole must be at least a few centimeters wide, so a closed door is an adequate stopping measure, but must remain closed for the duration of the spell.
The fog can only be dispersed by unnaturally strong winds (approximately 60 km/h.)
"Note to self: generally not the best thing to use indoors, running into walls gets real old, real fast."
Sarcastic Reflection(Water/Air)
Rank:C
Cost: 10
Range: 0-15 meters
Effect: Upon contact with a flat surface at least 3 feet wide by 6 feet tall, a reflection of the area is made including a reflection of the caster. The reflection cannot move beyond idly shifting weight and moving its lips in an imitation of speaking. The spell also holds the echoes of several pre-chosen quotes in the caster's voice, mainly for taunting. The reflection is maintained for five minutes.
"Sure it made it cost a little more, but the snark is worth it."
Pragmatist's Eye
Rank:Mystic Code
Cost: 5 prana per minute of use
Range: varies, see "Effect" for details
Effect: An instrument resembling a particularly ornate magnifying glass. Looking through the lens while channeling prana into it allows the user to see a kind of "trail" left behind by a being with a high density of prana in their bodies . These trails appear as a blue aura following the paths and covering objects interacted with recently. The more prana the being exudes, the more prominent the trail and the longer it lasts, generally a trail will remain visible for about 24 hours for a magus and up to three days for a servant. The device is attuned to the user's prana and thus their trails do not appear, in order to avoid confusion.
If the direct source of prana is viewed (for example, looking directly at the magus through the lens) Then that source's prana trail takes on a unique color to better identify the source. The speed of dissipation, however, remains the same.
"Also good for frying ants, no prana required."
