- Brave and bold
- As mentioned in the legends, Roland is an extremely brave man. He is fearless and daring. He won't back down from no one, for he is one of the bravest knights from his time. However, his braveness can go to the point of being reckless, and Roland usually had Oliver to keep a check on him so he won't get too deep in trouble. Even if Roland is recklessly courageous, you can count on him if you are facing a powerful foe, for he will never retreat unless asked to or he feels that retreat is an emergency.
- Hot-tempered
- One thing people criticized or praised Roland for was his hotheadedness. During his life, Roland was a person whose temper was fiery, making him prone to anger at a certain extent. What usually triggers his hot temper are things that he dislikes. However, if he concentrates enough he can control his emotions.
- Model Knight
- In the legends, Roland was depicted as the model of knighthood for the new era of the Crusades. He is brave, loyal, he gave his life to serve for his country and is chivalrous; Roland is, by default, a knight in shining armor. However, unlike most knights in shining armor in stories who are usually shown as having complete control over their emotions, Roland is more prone to express himself, and sometimes he can be a little passionate about it.
- Unwise
- Don't expect him to use words of wisdom for anything. That was Oliver's job, him who was so wise and exhibited poise in combat. Any words that approaches wisdom territory will be by quoting the words Oliver said to him when they were both alive.
- Slightly curious
- Curiosity is what killed the cat. That only applies to those who cannot keep their nose out of others' business. While Roland is somewhat a curious person, he minds his own business and will not inquire on details unless necessary. However, even with the information provided by his summoning, Roland is largely interested in the modern world. Testing out food, reading literature (dictionary is included because of modern language) or simply walking around sightseeing; these are all things Roland is curious for, and might bug his master a little to see them.

STRENGTHS: //
Roland was considered the best paladin under Charlemagne's troops, and was considered the number one knight in his country during his life. This fact pretty much means that Roland is an extremely good warrior when in close-range, and thus is a huge danger for his opponents. His sword Durandal provides him with three miracles that he treats as Noble Phantasms, providing him with support. He can also heal people with his mighty blade.
He also is extremely loyal to whoever summoned him, and will not even think of betraying his Master. Nice, friendly and a protector, Roland will do anything to helps and protect his Master during the Holy Grail War.
He also cooks, but he likes to make changes in what he does, most often resulting in perfect-looking dishes, but with an extremely bad taste. It often results in making gambles whether or not he will follow the recipe to the letter, or will add things like paprika, sugar and steak spices to a simple dish like scrambled eggs. Otherwise, he is a very good cook.
WEAKNESSES: //
Roland was considered the model for most knights. Brave, loyal, honorable, chivalrous... Even with these qualities, Roland is brave to the point of being reckless. Combined with his do-gooder attitude, he will often put his life in risk so he can help, or rescue someone in need. This knight is also very hot-headed, leading him to making quick judgments during battle, and sometimes very bad choices. During his life, he had to concentrate on his emotions so this wouldn't weaken him during battles. Well, that or he had Oliver to cool him down...
He is also only useful when in close-range. Trying to make him a middle-to-long-range fighter will be useless, since his Noble Phantasms are only for close-combat, with the exception of the Third Miracle.
The cook paragraph from the 'Strengths' section also applies here, by the way.

MY LEGEND: //
Roland
La Chanson de Roland
MY HISTORY: //
Nominating his stepfather, Ganelon, him... It has been a mistake for him to nominate him for this mission. Ganelon, whom he once trusted, yet disliked at the same time because of their clash of personalities, had swore vengeance against him, and committed treason against the Franks.
He was leading the rearguard as the army left Spain, as was ordered by his uncle, the king Charlemagne. Along with him were a dozen of paladins, all of great skill, all men of honor; the rearguard had a number of twenty thousand warriors and knights attached to it. They did not see it coming... Never once in their head would they even think of such a betrayal happening in such a fashion, there only was this faint feeling that something was up, and that it was not good.
He placed his hand on his sword hilt, having felt that feeling during wars, as if an ambush was about to occur upon the rearguard; Durandal, this land's sacred sword, was ready to be drawn and utilized in battle. The feeling of his hand on his hilt made him feel safer than he would with anything else in the world, even Oliver and Aude, his best friend and fiance, respectively. With this blade he shall protect the Franks, and his land, all for Charlemagne.
His fears came to be true. There was an ambush from the Saracens, around four hundred thousands, far too much for the rearguard who counted twenty thousand knights inside it; he just knew that he, Ganelon, his step-father, was behind this ambush. Facing this ambush, Oliver, the wise and prudent knight, conseled him to blow the Oliphaunt to call forth Charlemagne's main force.
~No.~
The man refused his best friend's advice and started the battle, revealing his mighty sacred blade, Durandal, as he unsheated it from its sturdy guard. The battle of Ronceveaux began, letting the world hear the warriors' cries of death as swords and armor struck each other and as flesh was getting ripped and slashed.
~There were too many of them...~
They were losing the battle, Oliver was lying on the ground, dead after a lethal strike from an enemy. The Archbishop Turpin was still fighting the Saracens, slaying them with his mighty blade, still trying to hold them back with varying success; the man was strong, and was able to hold off many adversaries. However, he could see that even the Archbishop did not have much more time, as he was slowly being outnumbered.
~There was no time...~
He should have listened to Oliver's words before the battle. He should have blown the Oliphaunt to call upon the main force. It was all his fault, he doomed the rearguard he was leading; he felt ashamed, he blamed himself for this fatal mistake. He took the horn out of its resting place and slowly brought it up to his lips. With the full force of his own will, he filled his lungs with air, preparing himself to blow the Oliphaunt, strong enough so even the world could hear its magnificient roar.
~Three times for the luck~
Three times he blew the horn, letting the Oliphaunt hear itself accross the world. The paladin only hoped Charlemagne would respond to his calling. However...
~The strength of the Oliphaunt was too strong...~
He felt his temples flare off, as if there was a fire inside his head. The brave paladin could feel his brain melting as the pain filled his mind, numbing his senses. He could not feel the pain from his few wounds anymore. He could see the avatar of the Higher Being calling upon him as he blew for the last time the Oliphaunt. He felt like he was getting erased from existence; the World was reclaiming the soul he was once given at birth.
~But before that, one must erase his identity, his blade...~
He must not let Durandal fall into the enemy's hands. This blade was too precious, too sacred for the enemy to handle against the Franks. He leaned on his hilt as he walked up the hill; he felt like this hill would be the best place to destroy Durandal, and maybe give a chance for his king to pass through a shortcut.
~And with all his might, he swung the sacred blade three times on the ground~
Upon landing the third strike on the hard ground, he could feel like he destroyed the hill, creating a passage for his king to pass through. The sword was still intact, taunting the paladin with its shine; the Higher Being did not allow the destruction of Durandal, as was expected from such a sacred blade.
He swung his sword behind him, acting on instinct as he felt a presence creeping up on him. He could only hear the faint sounds of Durandal slashing someone in half, and as he turned around he saw the enemy fall, dying in his own pool of blood. The paladin could only smirk as his last deed was concluded.
He dropped his blade on the ground, along with the Oliphaunt, and lied down on them. If breaking them was impossible, hiding was the other option available. The paladin lied on the ground, facing the enemy's land, and felt his eyes slowly close as his last breath was coming.
~I apologize, dear uncle, king Charlemagne...f-for disappoiting you...~
~P-p...please... let this s-soul... join O-Oli... Oliver... or p-please give me... another chance.~
~World! I-I... I he-..hereby... reque... a second chance... in t..his.. wo...rld...~
And upon these words, he saw himself dying, lying over his precious belongings, his king and his troops arriving on the battlegrounds. He saw his king, cradling his body as if he was but a child, crying...

- Durandal - The Peerless Sword
- The sacred sword king Charlemagne owned before awarding it, therefore giving it to his nephew, Roland. It is said that the sword contains within its golden hilt one tooth of Saint Peter, blood of Saint Basil, hair of Saint Denis, and a piece of the raiment of the Blessed Virgin Mary, providing Durandal with an indestructible form and incredible sharpness; it is why the word Durandal is made from the verb 'to endure' or in French, 'durer'. The sword itself contains three miracles that Roland can and will use whenever he wants, at will, and still has its full sharpness even when its owner's prana supply is depleted. The sword itself is considered A ranked, due to one of the miracles related to it being an A ranked attack, or Noble Phantasm.
NOBLE PHANTASM: //
The three following Noble Phantasms cannot be used in conjunction with each other. That means that Roland can activate only one miracle at a time, since they are each the uses of Durandal. That also means that activating another miracle will desactivate the previous one.
Durandal - Le Premier Miracle: La Brèche de Roland
Rank: A
Type: Anti-Unit
Range: 1
Max Targets: 1
Named after the cleft Roland created once he tried to break Durandal by slashing a mountain. The aftermath of this slash created what is now known as La Brèche de Roland; the creation of that cleft showed the indestructibility of Durandal, a fine piece of work. This is what the first miracle of this sacred sword is about.
Upon activation of this Noble Phantasm, Durandal gains the strength to cut through a mountain, or a thousand strikes in a single action. This pierce-and-slash-through-everything strike treats END as if it were 2 ranks lower. It, however, cannot treat someone's END stat lower than E.
This attack is limited to being used in close-range, since it is a sword strike even if it has the strength to cut through mountains. This obviously means that this attack can be avoided, and thus, dodged. However, once Durandal succeeds to hit with the attack, it's going to hurt like hell.
Roland can use this miracle up to four times before he has to resupply from his master as it is cheap on mana cost.
To quote Ilya on the CBOX: "It's like Uther's sword. Eh pierces through stuff and doesn't afraid of anything."

Durandal - Le Deuxième Miracle: Enchantement Sacré
Rank: B
Type: Support
Range: Self
Max Targets: Self
The second miracle provided by the sword Durandal for Roland. It was with this that Roland was known as the most powerful paladin in Charlemagne's army, and is what made him extremely powerful. The Holy Enchanting gives Roland more power and speed so he can use his skills as a Saber class to full extent.
Using this miracle increase Roland's Strength and Agility stats by a letter during a battle (i.e. B -> A). The miracle stays in effect for around seven minutes.

Durandal - Le Troisième Miracle: La Guérison de la Foi
Rank: C+
Type: Support
Range: 1~10; Self
Max Targets: 1; Self
A sacred and holy weapon provides healing for the faith, and that is what the third miracle Durandal possesses was about. Literally read, "La Guérison de la Foi" means "Healing of the Faith', but this is but a name for those who believed being in proximity to Durandal meant that their faith in the Higher Being would be healed and rejuvenated.
The third miracle is actually an emergency healing function that Roland can use on either himself or on someone close to him. It temporarily heals wounds to a certain extent so that retreating would be easier; the wounds are healed until Roland deactivates this miracle, meaning that the wounds would reappear once the effect is gone. However, they will be less fatal and will be half-healed.
Ironically, Roland did not use Healing of the Faith on Oliver when the latter was on his deathbed because of his hotheadedness. He was simply too struck in his emotions to actually do anything from the shock provided by the death of his best friend.

Range: Self

The oliphaunt that flared up Roland's temples, leaked his brains through his ears and eventually killed him. This oliphaunt is supposedly made from the horn of an unicorn, and blowing it requires great force to successfully make the loud noise associated with the Oliphaunt.
Once Roland blows the Oliphaunt, he can summon a few paladins from Charlemagne's personal army to fight for him. Each of these paladins have the average statistics of a normal servant, so they have C in all parameters. The paladins stay in this world for around ten minutes, which during that time they will hunt the enemy down.
Activating this Noble Phantasm means death for Roland, and thus makes it a pretty useless technique unless he is on a last stand. The proper activation of this Noble Phantasm would be when Roland is near death, when there is no other choice, representing his actions at the Battle of Ronceveaux where he refused to blow the Oliphaunt until the last moment.
