DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: //Mystic Eyes
PERSONALITY: // "Her mind is broken, all life seems gone from her face."
- Broken
- Because of her past, she is particularly susceptible to orders, and easily falls into the job of being told what to do. She hides her motivations deep beneath an exterior that is almost programmed to obey. While she may completely disagree with the orders, she will follow them as natural habit. While she will not be vocal about her orders, or disagree with them to the one who gives them, she may talk to others about her dislike, if her mind lets her think on it.
- Seeker of Justic
- : Deep within, she despises injustice, people being unpunished, and may take it upon herself to see Justice done, disobeying even her orders. This could be considered her strongest trait, the most prominent. This tends to be when her Lawful Evil side comes out, delivering what she sees as justice herself. With her knives.
- Facially Expressionless
- One of her more disturbing traits is her expression almost never changes from a knowing acceptance, the most people might see is a small smirk, or glistening eyes. Her emotions are under heavy heavy wrapping, to the point where she cannot even feel them herself. A small part of her mind screams every time she uses her mystic eyes, but that part of her has long been locked away.
- Dreamer
- When mentally affected by drugs, or alcohol, or a deep need for sleep, or unnatural terror or other such non-physical mental interference her old personality may come up. This is disastrous as the first thing she does is experience everything she has done, and cannot use her mystic eyes in this state. She is considered in this state when asleep.
- Unlearned
- Cardwyn has not truly had a traditional education in the normal sense either, but can read and write as well as do basic math to multiplication and division. She knows about Clock tower Politics and geography, as well as Italian for the purpose of the grail war, but anything else she doesn’t know much about.
LIKES: // One getting their dues, Following orders (Forced into her), small animals. She also enjoys attempting to fix broken things, even if she can’t actually do it. Oh and Killing murderers personally, its kind of her hobby.
DISLIKES: //Her family, despite her outward acceptance, people who escape justice (seriously, she will kill these people without an ounce of regret) Crimes (May also kill these people, but this is less likely)
STRENGTHS: //
Somewhat strong physically, at least more than she looks
Fighting burdened people, mentally and otherwise.
Close range combat
Unorthodox Tactics
WEAKNESSES: //
Her most effective weapon takes a toll on her as well.
Fighting those who have done no evil, killed no one.
Guns. Seriously. Her defense against these is pretty much hoping she can close the distance before she takes enough hits to die.
MY FAMILY LINE: //: Driald is a Welsh line of moderate success although with somewhat low prana capacity for their age. They are 893 years of age, with 19 successors, Cardwyn being the twentieth. The average capacity is 22 circuits at 4.9 prana each, Cardwyn herself has twenty-three at 4.8. Their Sorcery Trait is Ethereal Form, which allows them to pass any physical features down their bloodline as genetic code. This can be incredibly painful if done later than the first year of life and usually takes years to pass if done late, and even allows them to alter the appearance of their heirs, and is primarily used for the Family’s mystic eyes. However, Cardwyn is an almost complete physical copy of her dead mother/aunt because of this trait.
While normally the mystic eyes are the proof of a great magus with history stretching back to the time of the Roman Empire, the first Driald was a seer during the late 12th century, reputed to be a great judge, and those who may have committed great crimes were brought before him. He was able to use the mystic eyes, despite being first generation. He would tell of a man’s guilt or not. He was a freak of nature, and even his heir could not use the eyes, and they were not actually used, just passed down the line, until the fifth generation had finally amassed enough circuits to use them again.
The thaumaturgical crest contains a sub-application of Alchemy, which is dubbed: Burdening. It effects the way the matter is designed, in application it must be done similar strengthening, except that slowly the family has been grinding away the need for touch to be established, and the current heir possesses a crest that allows her to establish a link from up to five feet away.
This can pretty much be said as what the majority of the crest is. The other bits and pieces relate more to strengthening as a failed attempt into cheaper prana costs on burderning, but the family dismisses the magic as too common to use.
The low prana count for the family, combined with its immensely slow growth rate has lead them away from actually attacking the opponent directly, doing things like hurling lightning and etc, instead targeting an opponent’s equipment to falter their body.
MY HISTORY: // Cardwyn had the misfortune to kill her mother as she was born, and her father loved that woman more than anything in his life. It destroyed his mind for years, saw him released from the clock tower positions he held, and any respect he had gained in his life gone. When he finally came back into his senses Cardwyn was five, and being raised by a foster family somewhere in central England, unlearning of her true heritage as a magus.
So her father went out and killed each member of that family, and took Cardwyn back to his home to raise her.
She had not naturally inherited the Mystic Eyes of the family, as was normal amongst the family. But she had passed the first year of her life so passing them would be dangerous at best. It could ruin her vision forever.
He didn’t care, and she was in pain as her body transformed to accept the mystic eyes for half a year. Half a year she was chained to a wall, and kept from biting off her own tongue in the ravages of pain that reformed her eyes. She needs glasses to see normally, as her vision is bad as these are technically not her eyes, but these cannot be on while using the mystic eyes.
But apparently that wasn’t enough. Her father was truly insane, and he began to pass on pieces of his wife down the line as physical appearance. While not technically his wife, he transformed his daughter into a visual replica of his own sister in law, who his wife had been the twin sister of, and matched appearance very similarly.
Since he could not pass that appearance himself, he had the aunt come to pass on her strength and appearance, at threat of her life.
He passed down the woman’s strength of arms, and legs to support his daughters own failing body. She gained the muscular structure of her own aunt. He had taken the bloodline too far. Far too far. It had only been used for Mystic Eyes until that point, but he did not care, his mind was destroyed, and he thought he was creating a perfect heir.
She was not able to stand on her own until she was ten. As soon as she could he began a process to make her Mystic Eyes even more useful than they traditionally were. The family possessed traits that could best be called “Regret” and “Acceptance” as a qualifier. It made the one who met their active mystic eyes witness the worst thing they had done, through the eyes of the victim.
The affected one would relive the most horrible thing they had done, except as the victim. By some miracle it automatically picked out the most traumatic, and the most effective memory. And that experience was the “reality” created by one’s mind. They would feel every wound, every emotion the victim felt before. Or at least their mind would feel it, and reproduce it.
But the eyes had a horrible drawback: The user would experience the same thing, and as such uses of them often broke the user down to a mess as well.
But there was a way around that. Her father began to capture murderers, serial killers and the like, and bring them into his manor.
And then force the child to use the mystic eyes on them. Every time, tens of times, perhaps hundreds, both the girl and the criminal would break, weeping, or sometimes the criminal wouldn’t care, and she would. After she was done with them her father would simply release them into the wilderness, mentally fogged. He really didn’t care.
Until one day, perhaps three years later, she finally broke, and nothing fazed her any longer. Murders, brutally dragged on for days barely made Cardwyn bat an eyelash. What had been remorse, sadness, pain in her mind no longer existed.
And so the experiment was a success.
She was now a weapon, the perfect heir, in his opinion. The now ten years she had spent in tears and pain made her remarkably servile, to anyone with authority in their voice. She listened and performed exactly, to every command.
Although she had a strange preoccupation with going out and killing murderers. This is pretty much her ‘hobby’, after mystic eyeing them first.
When her father found about the heaven’s feel, two years ago through a network of old contacts in the clock tower that he had managed to retain, he had her trained in melee combat, as he swore his family would not touch a gun. She favoured small, hidden knives and became a brutal fighter in close range combat, using strategies that often involved sacrificing herself to strike an opponent, if she could not get the jump on them.
MY GOALS: //While her apparent goal is to obtain the grail for her father, deep within all she wants to do is use her mystic eyes on her father. But she has not seen him face to face for almost two years, as if he knows what she wishes to do.
EQUIPMENT: // Nine short switch-bladed stilettos easily covered by almost any clothing and made of the best steel possible. Carries at least two all the time, both under her clothes. They are all exactly the same, except for a small engraving of a welsh word on each blade. They are the exact length needed to reach a slightly larger than normal man’s heart and pierce halfway through it. Despite this, her preferred tactic is jamming it into someone’s neck, and letting them bleed out.
RANK: //Technically none.
ELEMENT: //Earth, and the conceptual elements of "Acceptance" and "Regret" which only come out in her mystic Eyes
EXPERTISE: //
Martial Skill: Despite being literally chained to things for the majority of her life, her father passing down his sister in law's muscular structure, at least parts of it, proved remarkably effective. She has minor training in hand to hand combat as well, and is deadly with a thin bladed stiletto. While it may not look like much of a weapon, one should not underestimate it. She also has some skill in fighting barehanded, but not on the same level as her knife fighting.
Unfazed: Because of her life experience there is almost nothing left in the world she has not felt, or experienced. Nothing will surprise her, and although she feels pain, she could endure torture with barely a twitching muscle. This actually can have an unnerving effect on her own torturers, captors or adversaries. This can also lead to ridiculous tactics, to the point where she may accept a knife in her chest, to stab her opponent.
Reading Motives: Despite what one might think, she is excellent at seeing past lies, seeing them for what they are, as so many of the things she experienced from her mystic eyes began with a lie, she has learned to see them for what they are.
MAGIC CIRCUITS: //Twenty three at 4.8 for 110 prana.
SPELLS: //
Mystic Eyes of The Unburdened Scales (Conceptual Elements "Acceptance" and "Regret")
Rank: Silver
Cost: : 35 Prana
Range: Eye contact, up to 15 meters
Effect: The eyes of the magus create a small contract between the magus and target, causing both the magus and the target to relive the moment of their darkest deed, from the point of their victim. While there are occasional sociopaths who may resist this, it tends to be highly effective, unless a person has not committed an act that has caused death or pain of another. The actual moment passed in the connection is approximately a quarter of a second.
This can be used on the same opponent more than once, but the brain somewhat shuts down the memory because of the traumaticness of it, and makes it difficult to target again within the same 72 hour period. If used before then it will not take their second worst act, but instead fail. This is somewhat similar to Mystic Eyes of Illusion.
Finally this requires complete eye contact to actually work properly, even glasses may limit it to just an illusion, and the target does not receive any emotions from it like that.
While this can be countered by a magus by flooding their circuits with prana to keep out the mental interference, it must be expected, as it happens at instant speed. If the circuits are just full of prana and one does not expect this to come it has no effect.
In addition, because the body of a servant is not the same as a human, they will not feel any physical sensations of the victim during the Mystic Eyes, but instead only receive the emotional feedback.
Magic resistance of B and higher will cause the servant to be aware of the illusion, but not feel the emotions, or the pain . However Cardwyn will still experience the full pain behind it.
Weight of the Blindfold (Burdening, Specifically Earth Alchemy)
Rank: D
Cost: Varies, based on how much the weight of an object is increased. It is approximately a pound per 2 prana to increase the weight, capping at usually around eight times the objects weight
Range: Touch
Effect: Decreased to single action because of the thaumaturgy, it increases the weight of an object, if they would be receptive to strengthening. This can technically target a body part, but the ease of it being washed away is almost funny. Things such as legendary weapons, or weapons without actual form or substance would not be affected, as it has to be able to be strengthened for it to work. A minor side effect is that if an object is burdened it cannot be strengthened, and vice versa.
The most effective part of this comes not from the wear an opponent would suffer when lifting such a weight, but rather the change in wielding. A person trained in firearms with his own weapon suddenly heavier, more difficult to aim, will suffer loss in accuracy, while martial weapons may be even more disadvantaged as the change in weight shifts the way a weapon must be used rather drastically.
Shifting Scales (Burdening, Specifically Earth Alchemy)
Rank: C
Cost: 10
Range: Touch
Effect: : Since one can get over a change of weight if it lasts long enough the fifth magus in Cardwyn’s line developed a sort of alternating set of switches that can turn a burdened object on and off, in specific areas allowing the constant varying of an objects weight from normal weight to about three times heavier and in between. To change the weight of an object that is affected by this simply requires a touch of prana. This cannot be maintained if the object moves more than fifteen meters from the magus. This has the same minor effect as weight of the blindfold, in that a strengthened object cannot be targeted with this, and an object burdened cannot be strengthened.
Chains of Justice (Burdening, Specifically Earth Alchemy)
Rank: B
Cost: 25
Range: Touch. If the target moves further away than fifteen it no longer works.
Effect:A burden specifically designed for targeting the opponent’s body parts from the seventh generation of Cardwyn’s family. Instead of interfering with the body’s natural processes it simply over stimulates perhaps a single leg of an opponent and makes a quick change in the way the muscles react to nervous responses, overproducing lactic acid, tiring out that body part much, much faster. However as this is still an interference spell if prana is flowing through the Magus’ circuits at the time this will not work. A magus could also reset their muscle back to its original condition if they had enough knowledge in altering their own body. This can last an extraordinary amount of time, up to an hour of the muscle overproducing lactic acid, which can painfully cramp the muscle in less than a minute of exertion.
Once again because this is natural interference magecraft, it is incredibly risky to use, but the payoff can be amazing. A crippled opponent against a skilled knife fighter is a dead opponent
